We started a new feature on the Opening Day of the Horseshoe Indianapolis meet last week. To give honor to both the track’s amazing Vice President and GM, Eric Halstrom, and his father, who served honorably and distinguishably in our country’s military, I am doing a bet for most of the dates this year to help raise money for Homeless Veterans in the area.
Our pick on Monday — May 12 — was our first “miss” of the campaign. Our selection, Whatnowdaddy, appeared to be in a perfect spot and poised to strike. But? Whatnowdaddy didn’t strike. Instead? Struck out.
But don’t let that disappoint. In our first 7 selections, we have had 4 winners and two runner-ups. And, we are now up to a total of $189.85.
The good news is that we have a long way to go until the end of the meet in November and we are hoping to multiply this number by several fold.
Here’s hoping we can keep the dream alive and the earnings growing. Not a bad start.
And, here’s today’s selection…Play along with us, if you want. More the merrier.
Don’t Miss Out (6) in 1st:
This 3YO Gormley filly will be making her 2nd start of the ’25 season for a top Indiana-based training operation, which is off to a hot .23% win percentage start to this meet after the first 43 starts. Don’t Miss Out ran a tiring third in the seasonal debut, but there were three extenuating factors that day. One, she was coming off a layoff of nearly 6 months. Two, she was running over a sloppy track, that was super tiring. And, three, she was going 6 furlongs. Today, she may catch a fast track and she will be shortening up to 5.5 furlongs here.
Over a fast track, this filly has a win and a third in two starts.
Over this distance, she has two wins and two seconds in four starts.
Over this track, she has never missed the board.
At 9-5 ML odds, I really, really, really like her chances here with Emmanuel Esquivel up for the fifth straight time.
Look out here today. I’m all in early on.
I bet the $5 to win/place/show for the Homeless Veterans in the Indy area.
I hope you do, too.
Let’s go.
