We started a new feature on the Opening Day of the Horseshoe Indianapolis meet last week. To give honor to both the track’s amazing Vice President and GM, Eric Halstrom, and his father, who served honorably and distinguishably in our country’s military, I am doing a bet for most of the dates this year to help raise money for Homeless Veterans in the area.
We renewed our wagering on Monday, and our pick — Don’t Miss Out — gave a valiant effort before giving up the lead in the deep stretch. We ran second, for the third time in eight races. We now have a record of 4 wins, 3 seconds and 0 thirds in those 8 bets.
More importantly, though, with our $13 effort on Monday, we now have surpassed the $200 mark and currently stand at $202.85 for our donation. And, we have a long way to go till November and the end of the meet.
Here’s hoping we can keep the dream alive and the earnings growing. Not a bad start.
And, here’s today’s selection…Play along with us, if you want. More the merrier. It’s for a great cause, after all. All monies earned will go to assist the homeless veterans in the Indianapolis area.
Today’s Pick: Song of the Vale in the 3rd Race:
Song of the Vale, trained by Aaron West, comes in off a promising 4th in the career debut here on April 15. Popped out of the gate and made the lead early on and hung around awhile until the deep stretch. Tired in that one and now comes back for a barn operation that is winning at a .30% clip so far this meet after the first 20 starts. Nice.
Gets Sammy Bermudez back in the saddle here, and the veteran rider is winning at a .19% rate so far this meet after the first 54 mounts. More importantly, though, the rider is winning at a .40% rate for this barn.
This gelded son of Speightsong should improve on the second career start and it does not hurt that he will be running at 5.5 furlongs today, as opposed to the opener that went a full 6 panels. Barn wins with 10% on the second effort.
Sloppy conditions today and the dam side can produce a mudder. This fellow is out of an Awesome Again mare, and they win with about .17% of the last 2,300+ to run over an off track.
This one is 4-1 in the ML and let’s hope the odds hold steady and this one gets the job done, too.
I bet $5 win/place/show on the #5 in the 5th race.
