We started a new feature on the Opening Day of the Horseshoe Indianapolis meet last week. To give honor to both the track’s amazing Vice President and GM, Eric Halstrom, and his father, who served honorably and distinguishably in our country’s military, I am doing a bet for most of the dates this year to help raise money for Homeless Veterans in the area.
We are now over $231 and we have all the way to November to add to our ledger. Want to join in? It’s a great cause.
Here’s hoping we can keep the dream alive and the earnings growing. Not a bad start.
So far, we have made 10 selections that have run at “The Shoe,” in our “Donation Play of the Day.” We have gone 4-4-0. On Tuesday, we had our 4th runner-up pick. Here’s hoping we can do a spot better in this one.
And, here’s today’s selection…
The Kid Pataky in the Shelby County Handicap — 7th Race
Just a year ago — oh my gosh — we got a Stakes victory with our very own Diamond Solitaire in this same event. Now, we are at home, on the farm, and our drama queen of a mare is in foal to the top stallion Jack Christopher (knock on wood). We are hoping to get a foal, and, eventually, a runner that has the heart of Diamond and the fast legs of the sire. If we do? Watch out.
Today, though, we pass the baton on to a filly we competed against on several occasions — The Kid Pataky. This 4YO Indiana-bred filly has run 14 times in the career with a tidy record of 7-2-2. She has earned over $260,000 already and is on the verge, I think, of doing more. At today’s distance of 6-furlongs, this filly has raced 7 times with a mark of 4-1-1.
The Kid Pataky is 5-2 in the ML and will face some stern competition. But I think she has the controlling speed and is coming off an impressive, easy victory in open company here the last time out.
Let’s go.
I will bet $20 to Win-Place-Show and root like crazy for a big victory.
How about you?
