Staff Report:

According to multiple reports and later confirmed by racetrack officials, a 2-year-old colt by Into Mischief — and trained by the embattled Bob Baffert — flipped over on his back following a training exercise at Los Alamitos on Tuesday and then was euthanized by attending veterinarians.

In a report on “Horseracingnation.com,” the colt had completed his morning exercise and was just about to exit the racetrack when he reared a couple of times. After losing his balance, the colt fell over on his back.

The horse received medical attention by veterinarians, who were on-site for the morning training hours. Upon examination, it was determined that the horse should be euthanized due to the back injuries.

Exercise rider Enrique Garcia, who had been up on the colt, was uninjured in the incident, according to reports.

According to the reports, Los Alamitos will conduct a full review of the accident.

Rapacious, a February 10 foal out of the Quality Road mare Princess La Quinta, was purchased by SF Bloodstock, Starlight Racing, Madaket and others at the 2021 Keeneland September Yearling Sale for $400,000. The colt was consigned to the sale by Taylor Made Sales Agency.

The last official work came on July 23, when the colt breezed 4 furlongs in :49.20. That was the 18th best time out of 29 to go the distance. That was the 6th published work since the first recorded work on June 12. The colt had one work from the gate on the record, and it came on July 7.
