From the Santa Anita Media Team:

With a well-deserved retirement reportedly beckoning, veteran trainer Art Sherman, of California Chrome fame, is well-positioned to take Saturday’s $75,000 Angels Flight Stakes with KMN Racing’s multiple stakes winning homebred Been Studying Her, as she figures prominently among a field of five sophomore fillies going six and a half furlongs on Saturday at Santa Anita.

Much improved in her most recent start, a close third place finish versus statebreds in the six furlong Evening Jewel Stakes here on May 16, Been Studying Her will be making her third start of the year and her second in Sherman’s care.

Bob Baffert’s Gingham, who returns to Santa Anita following a disappointing fifth place finish in an ungraded stakes at Oaklawn Park and John Sadler’s High On Gin, a two-time stakes winner at age two in Louisiana, also rate big chances in the Angels Flight.

Far back early in a field of 10, this California-bred daughter of Fast Ann rallied to be a fast finishing third, beaten 1 ½ lengths in the Evening Jewel when ridden for the first time by Prat.  A two-time juvenile sprint stakes winner versus statebreds, Been Studying Her was a respectable fourth in the Grade I Chandelier Stakes five starts back in September when trained by Dan Ward.  Originally headquartered with Jerry Hollendorfer, she earned a career-best 80 Beyer Speed figure in her lone start for Sherman in the May 16 Evening Jewel should be plenty tough in open company with Prat riding her back on Saturday.

A disappointing fifth in a 1 1/16 mile stakes May 1 at Oaklawn, this filly by Quality Road was second, beaten 9 ¼ lengths by highly regarded Venetian Harbor two starts back in the Grade II, one mile Las Virgenes Stakes here on Feb. 8 and will try sprinting for the first time in her ninth career start on Saturday.  A one mile maiden winner with Joel Rosario in her fourth start on Oct. 31, Gingham will be ridden for the second time by Mike Smith.

A Florida-bred daughter of the Tiznow stallion Fury Kapcori, High On Gin appears to have done her best running on off tracks.  A first-out maiden winner going five furlongs over a sloppy surface Aug. 21 at Evangeline Downs, she then won a minor turf stakes going 7 ½ furlongs on Sept. 7 at Louisiana Downs.  A one mile minor stakes winner in her fourth start over a sloppy track at Delta Downs in her first start for Sadler, she comes off a third place finish in a six furlong allowance at Oaklawn on April 26 and will make her Santa Anita debut start on Saturday.
