Steve Asmussen is having a pretty good time of it, of late. His super talented, world renown Gun Runner gunned down all the world’s top horses in the Breeders’ Cup Classic. His barn is bloom full of talented and gifted 2-year-olds, all of whom are strutting their stuff to get in line for the 2018 Kentucky Derby. And, the rest of his stable ain’t doing too bad, either.

After Sunday’s racing card, Asmussen is once again atop the Trainer’s Standings at the current Churchill Downs’ Fall Race Meet. With 27 starts so far, Asmussen’s runners have won 6 times, with 3 seconds and 7 thirds and have amassed $274,110 in purse earnings for his owners.

His win percentage is a solid .22% and his horses have hit the board .59% of the time. A good meet, so far.

In second place is Brad Cox, who has 5 wins, 5 seconds and 1 third in his first 26 starts at the meet. His horses have earned over $223,000.  Tied at second in terms of the number of wins is Eddie Kenneally, who has 5 wins, 3 seconds and 2 thirds in just 12 starts.

The trainer making the most news, though, is local boy Dale Romans, who surpassed Hall of Famer Bill Mott on Sunday to become Churchill Downs’ all-time winningest trainer.  So far this meet, the Louisville native has 3 wins, 3 seconds and 6 thirds in 27 starts.
