From the Media Team at Keeneland:

Catholic Boy, winner of the $1.25 million Runhappy Travers Presented by NYRA Bets (G1), and Roaring Lion, who captured the Juddmonte International (G1) in England, headline a spectacular week of graded stakes wins by Keeneland sales alumni. With their victories, four alumni secured berths in the 2018 Breeders’ Cup World Championships to be held Nov. 2-3 at Churchill Downs.

·       Catholic Boy’s authoritative 4-length win in the Travers at Saratoga was his third consecutive in graded stakes company, following his wins in the Belmont Derby Invitational (G1) and Pennine Ridge (G3) in his previous two starts;

·       Roaring Lion likewise dominated the Juddmonte International at York to earn a spot in the Breeders’ Cup Turf (G1). The win marked the second consecutive Grade 1 victory for Roaring Lion, who won the Coral-Eclipse (G1) in July;

·       Champion Abel Tasman secured a berth in the Breeders’ Cup Distaff (G1) with a gritty win in the Personal Ensign (G1) at Saratoga for her sixth career Grade 1 victory;

·       Marley’s Freedom cruised in the Ketel One Ballerina (G1) at Saratoga, a Breeders’ Cup Challenge race for the Filly and Mare Sprint (G1). The victory was the fourth consecutive win for Marley’s Freedom, who took the Great Lady M (G2) and Desert Stormer (G3) earlier this summer;

·       Promises Fulfilled followed his recent win in the Amsterdam (G3) with a victory in the H. Allen Jerkens Presented by Runhappy (G1) at Saratoga. Keeneland will offer the colt’s half-brother by Tiznow at the 2018 September Yearling Sale; and

·       Catalina Cruiser remained undefeated in winning the Pat O’Brien (G2) and earned a berth in the Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile (G1).
Meanwhile, the success of Keeneland sales graduates extended around the world. Joining Roaring Lion on the roster of recent international stakes winners were Kuwait Currency in England, Hakam in Norway and Conard Lord and Dream Charger in Russia.

Conard Lord, winner of the Coal Miners Cup on Saturday in Moscow, is a 6-year-old son of Congrats that Barsuk Racing purchased for $55,000 at the 2013 September Sale from the consignment of Gainesway, agent.

Dream Charger, a 2-year-old filly by Will Take Charge, won the Russian Two-Year-Old Grand Prix on the same card. Consigned by Legacy Bloodstock, agent, she was offered at the 2017 September Sale.

The horse broke well today,” Gaffalione said. “I had the horse inside, Dunph, going to the lead and then (Gun It) showed a little bit of speed. When I saw they were intent on going I just tried to get him back and got him to relax. He came back to me nicely and settled well down the backside. Got a little keen going into the far turn and wanted to move a little early. But I didn’t want to take too much away from him so I tried to sit as long as I could. He was waiting on horses down the lane but I kept him at task and there was plenty of horse there.”

“Mark (Casse, the trainer) and his team have done a great job,” Gaffalione said. “They’ve had a ton of confidence in this horse the whole way. It’s just an honor to be able to ride the horse. He’s just so professional, trains great and he’s a pleasure to be around.”

Tyler Gaffalione, Rode of War of Will to victory in the G2 Risen Star Stakes at the Fair Grounds
