Sunday was the closing day of the Churchill Downs’ September race meeting, and it was the second in a row that was held without fans in the stands.
Here’s hoping that it is the last.
In November, the horses will return to action to the big oval.
In November, the jockeys and trainers will return home.
In November, we hope to heck that the fans do, too.
Until then, we will travel onward to Keeneland for the annual October meet, with the fall colors and air in the air. We are not allowed there, either. But that’s a whole other story that we will leave for another time and another day.
See you soon. At a racetrack near you.
