Scat Daddy, who died way too soon and way too young, was a popular stallion who stood at Coolmore/Asford Stud in Versailles, KY. People on the farm loved him. People who bred mares to him loved him. And, most of all, the people that owned racehorses that could really run loved him, too.
Now, the sons and daughters of Scat Daddy are popular with the team of Coolmore and Ashford, too. On Wednesday, just a couple of hours into the beginning of the day’s sales activities, Coolmore’s M.V. Magnier shelled out $1.1 million for a Scat Daddy colt — foaled in Ontario — who is the first foal from the Tapit mare Orchard Beach, who was placed in two starts in Canada.
The colt, consigned to the sale by Anderson Farms, comes from the female family of Necessary Evil, a filly by Harlan’s Holiday who had 2 wins in 4 starts as a 2YO and earned over $117,000. That filly won the G3 Hollywood Juvenile Championship and was third in the G3 Sorrento Stakes at Del Mar.
It is also the female family of Repletion (who earned over $355,000 and won the G3 Queens County Handicap) and Over All (who earned over $411,000 and captured the G1 Spinaway Stakes, the G1 Matron Stakes, the G2 Adirondack Stakes, the G2 Schuylerville Stakes and the G3 Landaluce Stakes). The colt is a Feb. 5 foal.
