(Corey Lanerie)

Just a short couple of weeks ago, we were wondering — aloud sometimes — if the real Corey Lanerie was in New Orleans and riding horses at the Fair Grounds. After all, his name was no where near the top of the leader board. After all, his win percentage was hovering somewhere around the 10% mark, and about a third of what we are used to seeing. After all, he just didn’t seem to be the same spirited, gifted, talented, gutty rider that we all have become so accustomed to seeing in these parts.

No need to worry. No need to fret. No need to call the nurse. No need to report a missing identity.

We are happy to report that Corey Lanerie is just fine. Corey Lanerie is being the real Corey Lanerie. And, both his game and his name have ballooned to the top — once again.

After Saturday’s race card had concluded, Lanerie is now the meet’s leading rider in terms of purses won — with over $1.167 in earnings. And, although he stills has 11 fewer wins that Miguel Mean and 9 fewer than Shaun Bridgmohan, and 3 less than Mitchell Murrill, I wouldn’t bet against Lanerie putting on a serious rush to overtake them in that win category. And, I mean soon.

To date, Lanerie has 31 wins, 45 seconds and 39 thirds in 218 mounts this meet. While his win percentage is still a bit low for him, at .14%, he has now moved his percentage of finishes in the money to over 53%, and that, too, tops the meet with anyone that has over 100 rides.
