(Brad Cox currently sits atop the Trainer’s Standings at the Fair Grounds meet)

For the past several weeks, trainers Brad Cox and Joe Sharp, two of the younger guys on the circuit these days, have been nip and tuck in their race for the Trainer’s Title at this year’s Fall/Winter/Spring Meet at the Fair Grounds.

One week, it looks like “nip” has stuck his head in front, and then the following week, it appears that “tuck” is making up ground, and rallying back.

Now, it appears that the two Kentucky natives are headed for a head-bob finish on the wire in their duel to the top.

After Monday’s Holiday racing was concluded, Cox had totaled 37 wins, 16 seconds and 16 thirds out of 121 mounts this meet for a grand total of $1.172 million in purses. That amounts to a win percentage of .31% and his horses have finished in the money .57% of the time.

In hot pursuit is Sharp, who has made his journey to the winner’s circle 34 times, with 20 seconds and 21 thirds out of 132 races he has started a horse. That amounts to a win percentage of .26%, and his horses have hit the board on .57% of the time, as well. So far, Sharp has totaled $777,920 in purses earned.

Truthfully, the only trainer that would appear to have an outside chance to catching the front-runners is Tom Amoss, who does have 26 wins to date. But it would take a serious rally of epic proportions to catch up, with just about a month to go in the session.

Al Stall, Jr. is having a solid meet, as well. He is currently second on the Trainer List in purses earned, as he has tallied over $841,976 in just 100 starts this meet. But he is way back in the total number of wins, with 21.
