From the Santa Anita Media Team:

Trainer Mark Glatt’s Beer Can Man seeks his second consecutive stakes victory and his fourth in a row as he heads a field of seven juveniles in Sunday’s $75,000 Eddie Logan Stakes at Santa Anita.

A maiden winner three starts back going five furlongs on turf at Indiana Grand Aug. 31, he took an allowance at the same trip on Sept. 30 prior to shipping west to Glatt for a try at the Grade III Cecil B. DeMille Stakes on Nov. 29.  Dismissed at 19-1, he was attentive to the pace and drove to a half length win.

Peter Miller’s Irish-bred Ebeko, one of five horses exiting the DeMille, was a close fourth to Beer Can Man at 5-1.  A winner of one of his three starts in Ireland, Ebeko took the one mile turf Zuma Beach over the course three starts back on Oct. 4 and rates a huge chance with Joel Rosario taking over for the first time on Sunday in what will be his eighth start this year.

An impressive one mile maiden turf winner in his U.S. debut Nov. 29 for Phil D’Amato, Irish-bred Cathkin Peak rallied from off the pace with Flavien Prat, who rides the horse back in the Logan in what will be his third overall start.

The David Hofmans-trained Big Fish, a winner of the one mile Juvenile Turf three starts back at Del Mar, rallied to finish fifth, beaten 1 ¾ lengths by Beer Can Man at 5-1 in the Cecil B. DeMille Nov. 29.  A California-bred gelding by Mr. Big, he’s owned by Legacy Ranch, Inc., and will be making his seventh start.

With eastern-based John Velazquez named to ride for the first time, the Richard Baltas-trained Commander Khai, who opened up by two lengths turning for home in the DeMille, rates a solid look as he tries two turns for the second time in what will be his fifth career start.  A speedy son of Twirling Candy, Commander Khai tired late to finish third, beaten 1 ½ lengths by Beer Can Man at odds of 16-1.

Sunday’s race is named for Santa Anita’s legendary “Footman,” who operated his shoeshine stand from opening day on Dec. 25, 1934 until shortly before he passed at the age of 98 in January, 2009.
