Fans will be treated to duel-breed racing Saturday at Ellis Park Racing & Gaming where not only nine thrilling Thoroughbred races are on-tap but the heat races for the annual Dachshund Derby sponsored by Reditus Property Holdings and Taylor’s Body Shop will be held following the last race.
The first of nine Thoroughbred races will get underway at 11:45 a.m. (all times Central) and feature the $125,000 Jeff Hall Memorial. Wiener Dog racegoers who have already signed up can begin registration at 3 p.m. underneath the main grandstand.
Through the help of Reditus Property Holding’s Brian Buxton, several animal rescue groups will be on-site to provide information on adoptions and volunteer opportunities. Participating rescue groups includeFeline Fix, New Hope Animal Rescue, PAAWS, Paw Street Inc and Warrick Humane Society.
Fans are invited to visit the Ellis Park Gift Shop to purchase a Dachshund Derby t shirt with a portion of the proceeds benefitting the participating rescue organizations.
The Top 5 finishers from Saturday’s Dachshund Derby heat races will qualify for the Dachshund Derby finals on Saturday, July 29 at Ellis Park.
