We won the first race on the Friday night card.

We won the last race on the Friday night card.

In-between? Let’s not really talk about it.

But, then again, we must. That’s what we do. We went 0-for-6 in-between the inaugural event and the nightcap. But we did land some nice exactas along the way, too, to help cushion the blow.

All in all?

We had five exactas that returned the likes of $12.80, $15.30, $67.70, $9.70 and $7.40 for each $1 played.

We also cashed tickets in the 2nd, 4th, 5th and 6th races that returned us a positive ROI in three of those.

All in all?

A good night on the new Tapeta.

Here’s our looks at the Saturday night card:

1st: 6/7-2/1-4-8/5-9…The first Key Play of the Day/Night comes in the first event of the Day/Night. I will single Unscathed (6) in the lid-lifter. This 7YO gelding comes into this one off a disappointing 7th in the last out at Presque Isle last time out. But look at the comment line, please. Took an awkward step. Jockey lost the irons. Had not chance after that. Returns with speed to burn and gets a top pace-rider in the saddle. Barn wins with .33% of beaten favorites over the last 256 runners that quality for that designation. Barn has won with .27% of 286 runners this year. Looks like he has every chance to rebound strongly here tonight. I bet the 6 to win/place/show and then key the 6 over/under all the numbers listed — with more over the 7-2-1-4-8.

2nd: 2-8-9/(14)-12-1-4-3/5-(13)-7-10…Etu Babou (2) is my first Longshot Special of the Day / Night. This 2YO son of Speighster returns to the $30,000 level tonight after running 8th at this level last time out when getting the blinkers for the first time. Barn wins with .22% when stretching out to the route distance for the first time, though. And, wins with .19% when stretching out from two sprints into the route distance. Work on Nov. 28 was spot on. Look for a lot more here tonight at a very nice price. I’m all in. Cinnamon Bay (8) is a 2YO gelding from the red-hot barn of Brad Cox. Gets the blinkers for the first time and the barn wins with .24% of those. Loses the manhood for this one, too, and now drops from the MSW ranks to the $30,000 tag. Both of those changes could help, too. Barn wins with .36% when routing for the 2nd time. The one to beat, IMO. Upstart Gentleman (9) cost $170,000 at a 2YO sale earlier this year. Now, this one shows up for $30,000. Need a bigger truck. Has not been close so far, but the price drop could help immensely. Rider is off to a super start here and has won with half of his mounts for this barn operation. I bet the 2-8 across the board and then box the top 3 in the exacta. I will key the 2-8 over/under the 9-14-12-1-4-3-5 in two smaller units.

3rd: 12-10-(13)/8-6/5-4-1-9-11/2-3…Down Home Kitten (12) didn’t catch any breaks with the far outside post to begin this operation, but this 4YO gelded son of Kitten’s Joy figures in this spot. Drops another notch to the bargain bin and he has hit the board in each of the last 3 outings and 4 of the past 5. Has a win in only previous try over an AW surface. Icy Street (10) drops to the bottom level, as well, for the first time ever. Should appreciate the class relief and the work on Nov. 28 was encouraging. Has a win over an AW surface, too. Wide open affair. I bet the 12-10 across the board and then box the top 3 numbers in one exacta. I will key the 12-10 over/under the 13-8-6-5-4-1-9-11 in two smaller units. Spread race in the horizontals. All button?

4th: 5-6-10/9-4/3-11-1-8/2-7…Appealing Way (5) goes for a top young conditioner, whom I just happen to know a little about. His horses always look good. And, this one may just run better than you may expect. I can toss the race over the slop last time out. Go back to the run at KY Downs. Top effort against much better than these. Has a second in two previous runs over an AW surface. My 2nd Longshot Special of the Day/Night. The runner-up spot for me should go to Arian Rae (6), who comes form a barn that normally does very well in these here parts. Drops to a career low level tonight and picks up a rider who does have a couple of 2nds in 5 starts here so far this meet. Has speed and will have to be caught on the lead. Flirty (10) could add some spice to the odds rack here, too. This one has hit the board in each of the last 5 and 6 of the past 7 outings. Moves down from Presque Isle and should be respected here. Has 3 wins in 5 previous tries at Turfway Park. I bet the 5-10 across the board and then box the top 3 in the exacta. I will key the top 3 numbers over/under the 9-4. I will also key the 5-10 over/under the 6-9-4-3-11-1-8 in two smaller units.

5th: 5-12/3-10/11-2/8/7-4/9-1…Madam Pie (5) comes from the barn of one of the best young trainers in the game today. Helluva guy, to boot. This one ran well at the $40,000 level last time out. Drops even farther down the ladder tonight. Barn wins with .13% when moving from the turf to the AW and with .22% when away from the starting gate this long. Look for a big move here tonight. Nostalgia (12) draws the outside and that may hinder this one’s chances a bit. But over the last 7 races? This one has 4 seconds. Has hit the runner-up spot 4 times in 12 starts. Underneath? I bet the 5-12 across the board and then box these two sternly in the exacta. I will key the 5-12 over/under the 3-10-11-2-8 in two smaller units.

6th: 8-12/7-6/10-5-9/3-4…Native Charm (8) looks best in this spot, to me. this one drops to the $15,000 level and into the claiming ranks where this barn wins at a .18% clip. Trainer is sneaky good, and has won with .15% of 20 runners this year. Barn wins with .25% when away from the gate this long, too. Watch out at a price here. Thomasville (12) is the horse to beat, IMO. This 3YO Street Sense filly will make the first start for the new barn operation. Won the last time out at the $15,000 MCL ranks. Barn wins with .16% when moving up to face winners for the first time. Working well over this surface, too. I bet the 8-12 across the board and then box those two in the exacta. I will key the 8-12 over/under the 7-6-10-5-9-3-4 in two smaller units.

7th: 10/5-1-4/12-2/8-9/(14)-11-7-(13)…The next Key Play of the Day comes here with Infinite (10). This 4YO gelded son of Scat Daddy looks made for this new Tapeta surface. Has a 1-1-1 mark in previous 6 tries over an AW surface. Close last time out, but before that had back to back wins for a trainer off to a great start here already this meet. Looks to be the speed and may be able to clear them all. Barn wins with .34% when going from the sod to the AW surface. My pick. I bet the 10 to win/place/show and then key the 10 over/under the numbers listed. More with the 5-1-4-12-2.

8th: 10-(14)-8-(13)/5-6-1/3-11…Kitten Express (10) will make the career debut tonight for a top notch trainer, who wins with .23% when making the career beginning at a distance of a mile or greater. Would love to claim this one. Bred to run over this surfacer all day long. Work here on Nov. 28 was spot on. I take a shot here at the window and with the slip. God  Wink (8) goes for a top-notch guy and one of the best to ever make a living in this sport. Could say the same thing about this guy’s late father. Good people. Has a second in only previous try here this meet and this one drops from the MSW ranks to the MCL, $7,500 ranks tonight. Barns wins with .14% when making the 2nd start off the layoff. I bet the 10-8 across the board and then box the top 3 numbers — no matter who gets in — in the exacta. I will key the 10-8 over/under all the numbers listed in two smaller units.

Good Luck & All the Best / Gene
