It has been a strange year, already. Getting more bizarre, it seems, every single day.

But when you take a glimpse at the current “Jockey Standings” at the current Churchill Downs’ Spring/Summer race meet?

You do a double take. Or triple.

You begin to wonder if you hit on the right link.

You think, maybe, this is the current standings for the Gulfstream Park Championship winter meet. Or you think, just maybe, this is the current standings for the Belmont Park summer meet.

You think. You wonder.

After all, of the top four leading riders so far this meet? Three of them are normally not even riding at Churchill Downs at this time of year.

Tyler Gaffalione, once the boy wonder in Florida and now a genuine star in the saddle, has managed to boot home 10 winners out of the first 56 mounts and that gives him a slim, 1-win margin over the likes of Joel Rosario, John Velazquez and Churchill Downs’ mainstay Corey Lanerie.

A win farther back is Ricardo Santana, Jr., who has tallied 8 wins, while Jose Ortiz is next with 7.

Here’s a closer examination of the top riders so far this meet:
