It is not a long drive from the Keeneland Sales Pavilion over to Louisville’s famed Churchill Downs. About 70 miles, or so.

The straightest course, we know from elementary school, is a straight line. But that isn’t the horse business. And, it sure can turn into a long and winding road for yearlings, weanlings and babies still materializing in their mom’s belly.

But over the weekend, a couple of Keeneland’s Sales grads took a giant leap towards the first weekend in May — which is nearly 5 months away. A couple of youngsters who made one of their first public appearances ever in the sales ring at Keeneland, may be the latest “Cover Boy” and “Cover Girl” in the race for stardom.

Keeneland sales graduates Wonder Gadot and Catholic Boy each earned 10 points on the road to the 2018 classics with impressive wins in the Demoiselle (G2) and Remsen (G2), respectively, at Aqueduct on Saturday.

Wonder Gadot and Maurer Power, both graduates of Keeneland’s 2016 September Yearling Sale, finished 1-2 in the Demoiselle to each accumulate points on the Road to the Kentucky Oaks (G1).

Catholic Boy, a 2016 January Horses of All Ages graduate and graded stakes winner on the turf, made a successful debut on the dirt in winning the Remsen, a prep on the Road to the Kentucky Derby (G1)
