(Forever Unbridled was forever sticking her tongue out at passer-bys.)

Editor’s Note:

This is our third day of our new feature “Horse of the Day,” which is captured through the artful eye and creative lens of our track photographer and best of friends — Holly M. Smith. Soon, Holly will be writing about some of the horses on “her list.” And, Holly will be describing to us all why she has selected these horses to both photograph originally, and now revisit in these craziest of times. Can’t wait to read her comments, thoughts and reasons why these horses have captured her attention; her eye; and her heart.

Today’s “Feature” is the mare Forever Unbridled, who was trained by Dallas Stewart for owner Charles Fipke. The beautiful bay mare is now 8 years old. Imagine that. How times does fly.

Her last race was back in March of 2018, when she competed against the colts in the G1 Dubai World Cup. Ran 5th that day before heading off to the farm and the breeding shed. Before that race, though, she won three Graded Stakes in a row and four of the last five. Three of those wins were in G1 events.

She won the G1 Breeders’ Cup Distaff at Del Mar in 2017.

She won the G1 Personal Ensign at Saratoga in August of that year.

She won the G2 Fleur de Lis Handicap at Churchill Downs in June.

Overall, the mare won 7 Graded Stakes races in her career — which started in November of 2014 and concluded in March of 2018.

Overall, the mare won 4 Grade 1 Stakes events.

And, overall, she had 8 wins, 3 seconds and 4 thirds in 18 career starts and totaled over $3.486 million win purse earnings.

Overall?

She was brilliant.
