Foal registrations are due within 1 year of the foaling date to avoid late fees. However, late foals can be submitted with a late fee using the following guidelines:

12 months and 1 day to December 31st of the yearling year: $200 late fee

The Stewards Corner: Three Strikes

At the beginning of the race meet, the Stewards reviewed rules concerning the use of the riding crop, discussed their experience with the rule interpretation and developed the “Three Strike Rule” policy. Not to be confused with “three strikes and you are out”, “three strikes” refers to the number of times a jockey can strike his or her horse in succession. Then, the Stewards require the jockey to allow the horse two full strides to respond. Secondly, jockeys are not allowed to raise their riding crop above their shoulder. Finally, the jockeys are to be very focused on not hitting their horse in the flanks, which often results in cuts, welts and bruises. Continue reading…
