As we head into the final week of racing at Turfway Park’s Winter / Spring meet, it certainly appears that jockey Albin Jimenez is sitting chilly and sitting ready to capture yet another riding championship at the Northern Kentucky track.
Truth is, Jimenez has become a force at Turfway Park. He won the Holiday Meet riding title in December. He won the previous title in the Winter / Spring meet of 2019. And, he is generally regarded as the “go-to” rider for many of the top stables that frequent Turfway Park every year.
Gerardo Corrales, who journeyed to Turfway Park this year at the bequest of trainer Wesley Ward and has since ended up riding many horses for the barn of Mike Maker, as well, looks to have a lock on the #2 spot in this year’s rankings. He currently trails Jimenez in the standings by what appears an insurmountable margin of 9 wins.
But Corrales has managed to do is work with 68 less rides, too. Corrales’ over win percentage is a full 4% points higher than the winningest jockey, and Corrales’ mounts have hit the board — finishing first, second or third — and amazing 60% of the time.
Apprentice Joseph D. Ramos certainly made a name for himself this meet, as well. The rookie has managed 26 trips to the winner’s circle and has added 23 seconds and 33 thirds. He is the leading rider at the meet for “show” finishes.
Here’s a look at the top riders so far this meet:
