Keeneland’s prestigious November Breeding Stock Sale, an internationally recognized marketplace of outstanding Thoroughbred bloodstock, begins at noon ET on Wednesday, Nov. 6, with an exclusive Book 1 featuring 284 graded stakes-winning fillies and mares and notable weanlings. The auction, which covers 12 sessions through Sunday, Nov. 17, has cataloged a total of 4,572 horses: 2,059 broodmares, 105 broodmare prospects, 290 racing or broodmare prospects, 93 racing or stallion prospects, 84 racing prospects, four stallions, five stallion prospects and 1,932 weanlings.
Highlighting Book 1 of the November Sale catalog are such horses as:
- Grade 1 winner Callback, in foal to Medaglia d’Oro.
- Grade 1 winner Dame Dorothy, in foal to Uncle Mo.
- Grade 1 winner Eskimo Kisses, carrying her first foal by Curlin.
- Lil Indy, dam of multiple Grade 1 winner Maximum Security, in foal to Quality Road. Her weanling filly who is a full sister to Maximum Security also is cataloged.
- Grade 1 winner and stakes producer Nereid, in foal to Quality Road.
- Grade 1 winner Spiced Perfection, cataloged as a racing or broodmare prospect.
- Graded stakes winner Purely Hot, dam of 2019 Grade 1-winning 2-year-old Eight Rings, in foal to Union Rags.
- Grade 1 winner Sailor’s Valentine, carrying her first foal by War Front.
- Champion and multiple Grade 1 winner Take Charge Brandi, in foal to Triple Crown winner Justify.
TVG2 will present live coverage of Books 1 and 2. On Nov. 6, TVG2 coverage is noon-7 p.m. followed by noon-3 p.m. on Nov. 7 and noon-1 p.m. on Nov. 8.

The November Sale covers 12 sessions as follows:
Book 1 (Wednesday, Nov. 6) – Begins at noon.
Books 2-6 (Thursday, Nov. 7-Sunday, Nov. 17) – Sessions begin at 10 a.m.
Sessions on Tuesday, Nov. 12, and Wednesday, Nov. 13, will feature horses of racing age from such leading consignors as ELiTE, Lane’s End, Paramount Sales, Taylor Made Sales Agency and WinStar Racing.
November Sale graduates perform well in 2019
The November Sale has produced a number of 2019 stakes winners who were offered as weanlings and horses of racing age.
Graduates include these Grade 1 winners through Nov. 3 who were weanlings at the sale: Abscond (Natalma), Bast (Del Mar Debutante), Bowies Hero (Shadwell Turf Mile), Concrete Rose (Belmont Oaks Invitational), Mr Melody (Takamatsunomiya Kinen in Japan) and Serengeti Empress (Kentucky Oaks); Grade 2 winners Homerique (New York), Plus Que Parfait (UAE Derby Sponsored by Saeed & Mohammed Al Naboodah Group) and Selflessley (Miss Grillo); and Grade 3 winners Separationofpowers(Bed o’ Roses Invitational), Diamond Oops (Smile Sprint), Explode (Canadian Derby), Feedback (Forward Gal), Keeper Ofthe Stars (Autumn Miss), Maxim Rate (Senorita) and New York Central (Maryland Sprint).
Successful horses of racing age from the November Sale include Starship Jubilee, winner of the E.P. Taylor (G1), and these additional graded stakes winners of 2019: Elysea’s World (IRE) (Santa Ana-G3), Next Shares (San Gabriel-G2) and Santa Monica (GB) (Sheepshead Bay-G3).
Elysea’s World is cataloged as a racing or broodmare prospect to sell during Book 1 of the 2019 November Sale.
Leading sires represented by in-foal broodmares, weanlings
The November Sale catalog includes 23 broodmares in foal to 2015 Triple Crown winner American Pharoah, 22 weanlings by the stallion and 16 mares carrying the first offspring of 2018 Triple Crown winner Justify.
Broodmares in the catalog are in foal to a total of 202 exciting young stallions and successful established sires. For the first time, the sale is offering mares in foal to champions Accelerate, Good Magic and West Coast; Preakness (G1) winner Cloud Computing and other Grade 1 winners Bolt d’Oro, City of Light, Collected, Mo Town, Mor Spirit and Oscar Performance.
Additional notable covering sires include American Pharoah, Arrogate, Bernardini, Candy Ride (ARG), Curlin, Empire Maker, Frosted, Ghostzapper, Gun Runner, Into Mischief, Kitten’s Joy, Malibu Moon, Medaglia d’Oro, More Than Ready, Pioneerof the Nile, Quality Road, Runhappy, Speightstown, Tapit, Uncle Mo, Union Rags and War Front.
Among the nearly 200 sires represented by weanlings in the catalog is an impressive group of stallions with their first weanlings, such as Horse of the Year Gun Runner, champions Arrogate and Classic Empire; Grade 1 winners Connect, Cupid, Keen Ice, Mastery and Practical Joke; Grade 2 winners Mohaymen, Unified and Upstart; and Grade 3 winner American Freedom.

Keeneland sales are free and open to the public. The Sporting Art Auction will begin on Nov. 17 at 4 p.m. in the Sales Pavilion.

The Keeneland Library Presents “A Day in the Life: Volume I” – This exhibit features the work of early Turf photographer John C. Hemment. The Keeneland Library is home to the largest known surviving body of work of Hemment, a photographer during the late 19th and early 20th century. A virtual counterpart of the Hemment exhibit is at keenelandlibrary.omeka.net/exhibits.Celebrating its 80th anniversary this year, the Library is free and open to the public Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
