From the Keeneland Media Team:

Keeneland hosted a large crowd of potential buyers for today’s Preview Show held in advance of tomorrow’s April 2-Year-Olds in Training and Horses of Racing Age Sale. The April Sale begins at 2 p.m. ET on Tuesday.

The Preview Show enables buyers to watch cataloged 2-year-olds breeze over the race track or turf course. Preview Show times and replay video for each horse that worked are included in the interactive April Sale catalog. Work replays also will be available for viewing in the Sales Pavilion just outside the Northern Dancer Bar.

Three 2-year-olds breezed 1/8th-mile over a muddy dirt track in :10, the fastest time at that distance. Two of those juveniles are consigned by Wavertree Stables, agent: Hip 126, a colt by Liam’s Map out of graded stakes winner Jenny’s So Great, by Greatness, and Hip 136, a colt by Bodemeister out of stakes-placed Resident Alien, by Bertrando. Also going an eighth in :10 was Hip 130, a filly by Tapit out of Grade 1 winner My Conquestadory, by Artie Schiller, consigned by Hartley/De Renzo Thoroughbreds, agent.

Le Competition, Hip 129, breezed the fastest 1/4-mile over the dirt, getting the distance in :21.1. Consigned by Kirkwood Stables, agent, the filly is by Competitive Edge out of the Bellamy Road mare Lefreakcestchic.

Two fillies consigned by Shamrock Stables turned in the fastest breezes over the soft turf course. Hip 103, a filly by Fed Biz out of the winning Kafwain mare Cheer for Foxes breezed an eighth in :10.3. Hip 165, a filly by Declaration of War out of Arch Almighty, by Arch, went a quarter-mile in :22.2.

The April Sale has cataloged 169 horses, including 73 juveniles and 96 horses of racing age.

Two additional juveniles, both consigned by C. S. Racing, agent, have been supplemented to the April Sale. Mean Sophia, Hip 95, won her career debut by 10 ½ lengths on Thursday at Keeneland, recording the fastest time at 4½ furlongs this meet. She is a daughter of Smarty Jones. Competitive Queen, a filly by Competitive Edge, finished second by a half-length in her first start on Sunday at Keeneland.

Keeneland will provide live coverage of the April Sale at Keeneland.com.

April Sale graduates include six classic winners: Belmont (G1) winner Palace Malice; Preakness (G1) winner and champion Lookin At Lucky; Kentucky Derby (G1) and Preakness winner and champion Big Brown; Kentucky Derby and Belmont winner and champion Thunder Gulch; and Kentucky Oaks (G1) winners Keeper Hill and Gal in a Ruckus. The horse broke well today,” Gaffalione said. “I had the horse inside, Dunph, going to the lead and then (Gun It) showed a little bit of speed. When I saw they were intent on going I just tried to get him back and got him to relax. He came back to me nicely and settled well down the backside. Got a little keen going into the far turn and wanted to move a little early. But I didn’t want to take too much away from him so I tried to sit as long as I could. He was waiting on horses down the lane but I kept him at task and there was plenty of horse there.”

“Mark (Casse, the trainer) and his team have done a great job,” Gaffalione said. “They’ve had a ton of confidence in this horse the whole way. It’s just an honor to be able to ride the horse. He’s just so professional, trains great and he’s a pleasure to be around.”
