And, then there was one.  The mammoth 12-day Keeneland Select Yearling Sale will come to a close with record-breaking numbers today.  And, despite the weary eyes and drooping lids, the faces of those at Keeneland are happy ones.

On Friday, the sales auction company sold 159 yearlings for a total of $2,111,900.  That amounted to an average of $13,282 and a median price of $7,500.  Through the first 11 days, Keeneland — when the sale began on Sept. 11 — Keeneland has now sold 2,420 horses for a gross of $306,377,600.  that is an average of $126,602 and a median price of $65,000.

The top seller on Friday was a filly by Gio Ponti, who sold for $115,000 to John Brocklebank, as agent for R 3 Stable.  He purchased two yearlings on the day for a total of $136,000. Penn Sales consigned the top seller, who is a half-sister to Grade 3-placed winner The Accuser and the Stakes-placed winner Toulouse Lautrec.  She is also from the female family of Breeders’ Cup Juvenile winner Success Express, Canadian champ Charlie Barley and G1 winner Greenwood Lake. The filly is out of the Meadowlark mare Lac Du Printemps.

Lane’s End Farm, as agent, was the day’s leading consignor.  The Versailles farm sold 15 horses for a total of $276,500.
