Keeneland Sales Grads Had a Great Weekend

From the Media Team at Keeneland:

The Secretariat (G1) at Arlington Park on Saturday produced an exciting finish between Carrick and favored Analyze It, both graduates of Keeneland’s 2016 September Yearling Sale, with Carrick prevailing by a neck. Carrick was making only his fourth career start in the Secretariat, having won his debut in May at Belmont. Bandua, sold as a weanling at the 2015 November Breeding Stock Sale, finished third.

Keeneland sales graduates won four graded stakes events on Sunday. Veteran Emerald Downs campaigner Barkley proved clearly the best in taking the Longacres Mile (G3) at his home track. Champagne Problems rallied to win the Groupie Doll (G3) at Ellis Park by 3¼ lengths. Yuvetsi upset favorite and fellow 2015 September Sale graduate Anonymity in the Rancho Bernardo (G3) at Del Mar. Recent Robert G. Dick Memorial (G3) winner Tricky Escape kicked home to a 3¾-length victory in the Waya at Saratoga.

In the stretch I could tell Ax Man was starting to get tired,” Baffert said, “and I saw a horse coming and I said, ‘That’s me,’ so that was good….“He needed the whole stretch to get there,” Baffert said of Once On Whiskey. “I’m happy for the whole gang. I like what I saw from him today. Coming in I really thought Ax Man could do it, but on the turn, I could see them ganging up on him and he just didn’t respond. I have to give credit to Prat. I told him just to be patient with him.’’
