Keeneland Sales Grads Win 4 G1 Races on Labor Day — Wow

Siblings to multiple weekend stakes winners cataloged for September Sale

Keeneland sales graduates swept four Grade 1 stakes over the long Labor Day Weekend, headlined by Preservationist’s victory in the Woodward Presented by NYRA Bets (G1) at Saratoga.

The closing days at Saratoga and Del Mar showcased wins by Keeneland-sold juveniles Bast (Del Mar Debutante-G1), Basin (Runhappy Hopeful-G1) and Nucky (Runhappy Del Mar Futurity-G1).

For their Grade 1 wins, September Yearling Sale graduates Basin and Nucky earn a $10,000 September Sale Seller Bonus for Cottonwood Stables and for Barry and Judith Becker, respectively.

A number of siblings to weekend stakes winners are cataloged for the September Sale, which begins Monday, Sept. 9:

·       A half-brother to Bast by California Chrome (Hip 881) is consigned by Taylor Made Sales Agency, agent;

·       A half-brother to Basin by Orb (Hip 3583) is consigned by Brookdale Sales, agent;

·       A half-brother to Red Bank (G3) winner Divisidero by Into Mischief (Hip 1258) is consigned by Hinkle Farms;

·       A half-brother to P. G. Johnson winner Crystalle by Street Boss (Hip 1878) is consigned by Shawhan Place, agent; and

·       A half-sister to TAA Kitten’s Joy winner Doc Boy by Elusive Quality (Hip 582) is consigned by Sierra Farm.

September Sale graduate Royal Charlotte earned a $2,500 September Sale Seller Bonus for Rhineshire Farm for her win in the Prioress (G2) at Saratoga. The filly previously secured a $5,000 Seller Bonus for her win in the Victory Ride (G3) in July at Belmont.

Vinery Sales, agent, will consign a half-brother to Royal Charlotte by Mineshaft (Hip 1796) to the September Sale.

Also cataloged for the September Sale are a half-sister to Smarty Jones (G3) winner Spun to Run by Frosted (Hip 1047) and a half-brother to One Dreamer winner Hanalei Moon by Tapit (Hip 1076).

The horse broke well today,” Gaffalione said. “I had the horse inside, Dunph, going to the lead and then (Gun It) showed a little bit of speed. When I saw they were intent on going I just tried to get him back and got him to relax. He came back to me nicely and settled well down the backside. Got a little keen going into the far turn and wanted to move a little early. But I didn’t want to take too much away from him so I tried to sit as long as I could. He was waiting on horses down the lane but I kept him at task and there was plenty of horse there.”

“Mark (Casse, the trainer) and his team have done a great job,” Gaffalione said. “They’ve had a ton of confidence in this horse the whole way. It’s just an honor to be able to ride the horse. He’s just so professional, trains great and he’s a pleasure to be around.”
