From the KY HBPA Media Team / Jennie Rees:

Rich Strike will attempt to be the first Kentucky Derby winner to also take Churchill Downs’ Clark at age 3 since His Eminence in 1901. But that also was the last year that the Clark was restricted to 3-year-olds, so Rich Strike could become the first reigning Derby winner to beat older horses in the Clark. The last Derby winner to win the Clark at any age was the 4-year-old Silver Charm in 1998. From Churchill Downs’ media department: The 14 prior Derby winners to capture the Clark at any age: Silver Charm (1998), Whirlaway (1942), Exterminator (1922), Old Rosebud 1917), His Eminence (1901), Lieut. Gibson (1900), Plaudit (1898), Halma (1895), Chant (1894), Azra (1892), Riley (1890),Spokane (1889), Buchanan (1884) and Hindoo (1881).
The videos below are available for any media use as part of the Kentucky HBPA’s initiative to provide supplemental racing content to news outlets. A little credit somewhere to the Kentucky HBPA for use of video clips is appreciated. Also: Let us know if you’re using it, including extracting quotes or audio. Email me at [email protected]. I won’t be at Churchill Thursday for the Fleur de Lis but plan to be there Friday and Saturday for the stakes and will be sending out video interviews with winners. Thanks and have a great Thanksgiving weekend! Jennie Rees, KyHBPA communications
