Dane Kobiskie may not be a household name around Kentucky. May not be a horse trainer that you immediately circle in your handicapping notes. May not be the first person that you would reach out to if you are looking for a person to condition your horse, either.

Yet.

But he may be all those things in the future.

After Sunday’s races were completed at Ellis Park — the little country racetrack in Henderson, Ky. — the little known and little recognized Dane Kobiskie sat atop of the Trainer’s Standings.

All alone.

The former Marine and the former jockey — which both jobs require a lot of muster — has 6 wins, 2 seconds and 2 thirds in the first 19 starts. That gives Kobiskie a two win margin over longtime Kentucky trainer Angel Montano, who has 4 wins and 2 seconds in just 8 starts.

Three wins farther back in the race are the likes of HOFer D. Wayne Lukas, perennial super star trainer Brad Cox, top Kentucky conditioner Ken McPeek, notable Ron Moquette, John Ortiz and Jason Barkley.

But, at least for now, they are all chasing Kobiskie — the man who holds up shop at the Thoroughbred Center in Lexington.

So far this year alone, Kobiskie has started 76 horses. He has managed to carve out 19 wins, 9 seconds and 8 thirds and his horses have earned over $326,291 in purse money.

His win percentage this year is .22%. His horses have finished first, second or third on .51% of the time.

But the highlight so far as been the start of this meet at Ellis Park. More highlights may be to come, too.
