It was a darn fun time, to be had by all.
On Friday night, a group of about 35 to 40 people crowded into The Louisville Thoroughbred Society’s library for an intimate, close-up and fun “fireside chat” with some of the most talented and knowledgeable people in the Thoroughbred industry.
Trainer Dale Romans, who has started a number of horses over the years in the Kentucky Derby and has two third-place finishes on his resume, told stories that captured the glory and the passion of what the world’s most famous horse race means to those that live and work in Louisville and make their living in the Thoroughbred industry.
Handicapper Ed DeRosa, the marketing director for Brisnet.com, detailed how he goes about handicapping the greatest “Two Minutes in Sports,” and how he is looking at trying to win the big race on May 1.
And, little ole’ me, joined right in the festivities to lead the “Question & Answer” section with the attentive audience.
It was a great night of celebration; story-telling; reminiscing; and other fun.
All those in attendance got to ask questions about past Derbies and this year’s future version.
Romans got to tell stories of how he and his family have always treasured the “walk over” to the paddock and the “big race.”
And, DeRosa dove into this year’s prospective field and who and why he likes for this year’s version.
We will do this again.
And, you should make plans to attend — if you love the horse business.
