Just a couple of “Spot Plays” for Saratoga today, but please be warned. I’m in Iceland. On Holiday. In the middle of the greatest adventure of my life.
So, if the picks are, let’s say, a bit chilly?
Then it is to be expected, right?
Well, let’s give it a shot any, ole’ way:
Race 1: Chad Brown’s entry of Frontier Market (1) and Unleveraged (1A) figure to be very tough in this spot. The former, a 6YO gelding by Lemon Drop Kid, has raced 4 times at this distance and has 2 wins and 2 seconds. Has 2 seconds in 2 previous races here, too. The latter is a 4YO son of Scat Daddy and has 2 wins and a second in 3 career races to date. Coming off 2 wins in a row. The best race of the day may be between these 2. No odds here, but may be able to start a nice horizontal play with a key. If it rains off the turf? Brown is ready for that, too. Identity Politics (1x) has hit the board in 8 of 9 lifetime runs, and is coming off a fast-closing second here in last out. Brown out.
Race 2: Tap It to Win (1) ran a good one on debut at Woodbine on July 21. Ran second, after setting all the early fractions. That was over the sod, and now the 2YO son of Tapit moves to the dirt. Trainer is having a solid meet, and this one has trained very well over this track. Could slip up the odds board a bit. Has the speed to move off the rail early. Must break well, though. Like his spot in this one.
Race 3: First Wave (3) is a 3YO War Front filly who has 2 seconds in the first two runs, and figures to be a pace presence in this spot, too. Looks to be a good spot for this try, and I like the odds, too. My shot
