Here is a closer look at today’s card at Churchill Downs (abbreviated comments):

st: 1-3-2-4…Circle Unbroken (1) ran off to an impressive win in his last out and this 7YO could/should do it again today.  He gets my “dot” (must use) in this spot. I bet the 1 to win/place/show and then key over/under the rest of the numbers listed.

nd: 3-10-1-4-7-9…Schliffy (3) is the best horse in the race. Period. But does he show up today? Question. Should handle the. Safari Heart (10) gets Lasix and a 10-pound weight allowance with a “bug boy.” Both should help immensely. I bet the 3-10 across the board and then key those 2 over/under all the rest, and box them in another.

rd: 3-7-6-1…Ostentation (3) is a dead closer and is 1-for-1 at the mile distance. Drops in class should help, too. I bet the 3 to win/place/show and then key the 3 over/under all the rest.

th: 8-2-5-6-7-1…In Focus (8) was claimed off a top young trainer in Stephen Lyster back in August.  New connections have struggled to find that same horse, who won that day by 5 lengths. Gets the drop back down and that should help wake this filly back up a bit. Frigidish (2) gets a big class drop and is the horse to beat. I bet the 8-2 across the board each and then box those 2 in one exacta and then key them over (only) in another.

th: 2-3-5-6…Flatout Happy (2) spit the bit late in the last effort at Ellis Park. should improve with another class drop today and with more condition. Bunny Boss (3) gets a huge drop for Mike Maker after showing nothing on debut. Surely, this filly is better than that last one. Ashy Taty (5) gets a nice rider switch to a cagey vet and that may help, along with the class drop, too. I bet the 2 to win/place/show and then box the top 3 in the exacta.

th: (9) (8) 7-1-4-2-6…Keep an eye out to see if either the #s 9-8 get in today. I use if they do.  If not, I go to Dreamrider (7) in a key bet here. This one is tons the best, IMO, on paper.  My Best Bet. I bet the 7 to win/place/show and then key over/under all the rest.

th: 5-1-6-3-8-2…A wide open affair here, but I finally go with Proud Dixie (5) with the slight drop back down to near the same price where she was taken at two back. Likes the distance and the course. Should be tough in this spot. Roan Feathers (1) has hit the board in the last 7 tries, and has 6 thirds in that span.  I wheel this one under the “all button” in the exacta and the “all,” “all,” in the trifecta.

th: 6-12-9-10-7-8…War Tom (6) comes into this one off two nice runs over the grass for a new, young sire who excelled on this surface. Any improvement makes this one tough. Mr. Discretionary (12) has 3 thirds in 4 career starts. Has two nice runs in a row on the turf. Could be tough with a rider switch today. Finished (9) should run his best on the third out and stretch out.  I bet the 6-12 across the board and then box those two solidly in one exacta and then key the 6-12-9 over/under the rest.

th: 3-2-5-4…Rich Daddy (3) has hit the board in 12 of 14 tries at this distance and has a second and a third over this track. Lanerie stays on board and that’s a good sign. Curliness Vow (2) moves up a condition after a win in the last, but he’s doing really good right now and is a different horse since the addition of blinkers. Singing Bullet (5) is solid, but loses his rider. I bet the 3 to win/place/show and then box the top 3 choices in the exacta.

th:5-6-8-9-7…Binary Bourbon (5) figures here on the past performances, but gets a huge class drop, too. The pick. First timer for Bernie Flint in Glory Train (6). Although the trainer only wins with .05 with debut runners as a whole, he hits at .25 with those making the career start in the claiming ranks. Training doesn’t inspire much confidence, though. She’s Flat Out (8) ran ok on debut at Belterra, but was flat in race 2. Rebound? I bet the 5 to win/place/show and then key over/under in the exactas.

Good luck & All the Best/Gene
