We had a pretty good “Hump Day” on Wednesday, as we travelled out to the “Finish Line Suites” for a “Day at the Races.” Came home with 5 winners on the 10-race card and nearly landed the “big fish” with the late Pick 5.

We also added 8 exactas on the day, as well.

Not bad. Not bad at all.

Here’s hoping we can add to the bankroll here. And, here’s our looks at the Thursday card:

1st: 1-2/6-4/3-7//5-8…Desoto’s War (1) gets the nod in the ole’ lid-lifter at the big oval in Louis-Town today. This 5YO gelding has hit the board in each of the last 3, but is still searching to crash that winner’s circle party for the 3rd career time. Last win was in January of this year down at the Fair Grounds. Has missed in the last 8, but does have two 2nds and two more 3rds in that mix. Will be stalking the leaders here and does have a 2nd and two 3rds in 4 previous runs over this main track. Question remains? Can he pass them late? Great question. Lake Tahoe (2) is a beautiful place and this 3YO colt, named after that paradise, can look good, too. Won the last time out here on Sept. 16. Now has 2 wins in 3 previous tries over this surface. Gets a veteran rider up, who knows his way around this place. Has hit the board in 3 of the last 4 and 4 of the last 6. Other 2? Ran 4th. Consistent sort will push the pace hot and heavy. I bet the 2 — take note — across the board and then box the 1-2 in the exactas. I will key the 1-2 over/under the 6-4-3-7 in two smaller units.

2nd: 6-3-1/9-8/2//4-5-7…Seiver (6) drops to half the asking price of the last go round and this 3YO filly ran a very respectable 4th in that one against much, much tougher. Should fit nicely in this spot and the barn wins with .16% when returning as a beaten favorite. Will be coming late and that tactic has worked good over this track of late. Watch the late goings. Could be a tough one at wire. Sweet Truffles (3) drops in class for this one, as well, and the barn wins with .55% of the last 11 to get this much class relief at one time. New rider up. Will push the pace here. Can this daughter of Candy Ride steal it? Will try. Verdandi (1) is the ML favorite and gets a world-class rider up for this one. Nearly won here at this level last time out. Has speed. Will pedal fast from this rail spot. Threat. I bet the 6-1 across the board and then box the top 3 in the exactas. I will key the top 3 numbers over/under the 9-8 in two smaller units.

3rd: 3-6/2-1-5//4…Shaniah (3) has hit the board in the last 5 outings and 6 of the last 7. Comes in off three straight 2nd-place finishes, too. Over this surface, this daughter of Speightster has a 1-2-2 mark in 6 previous runnings. Adds up to a consistent sort. Does she add up to winner? Needs to pass at the line. Argumental (6) is the ML favorite and figures to be the one to beat. Won the last time out to break the MCL at the top end. Will make the 2nd start off a layoff and this barn wins with .20% of the last 499 to do that. Look out here. I bet the 6 — take note — to win/place/show and then box the 3-6 in the exactas. I will key the 3-6 over (only) the 2-1-5 in a smaller unit.

4th: 9-1-3/2-6-7/4-5-8…Retained (9) gets the nod here. This 2YO son of Bayern comes in off a tough-beat 2nd last time out at KEE and was claimed in that one. Bumps up to face tougher here. This barn wins with .23% of those that return to the gate as the beaten favorite. New rider up. Whoop Gone (1) is a possible longshot here at 10-1 in the ML. This one will make the career debut here and the barn wins with .13% when making the first run in the MCL ranks. Works are solid. Boudin (3) ran well in the debut and then faltered mightily in the 2nd running. Was wide in that one and gets a new rider here. If he returns to the first level of class, he will be a threat here. I bet the 9-3 across the board and then box the top 3 in the exactas. I will key the top 3 over/under the 2-6 in two smaller units.

5th: 8-4/7-2-3-5/6-1…Camp David (8) will get the blinkers for the first time and the barn wins with .13% of the last 150 to add the shades for the first time. Has speed and should fit here with a return to the sprint distance. Nice wok at Turfway Park on Nov. 1. Look out on the front end. Iberville (4) was claimed last time out and returns to the same level here. Ran a super 3rd last time out and should be firing from the get-go here. New rider could help. Barn wins with .14% of those making the first start after a purchase. I bet the 8 across the board and then box the 8-4 in the exactas. I will key the 8-4 over/under the 7-2-3-5 in two smaller units.

6th: 6-3-1/5/7//2/4…Tango Charlie (6) drops a bit in class here for a top barn operation. This barn wins with .21% of the last 166 to make the 2nd start after a claim purchase. Fits with this class and a nice gate rider could put this one in the mix early and often. Shadow Matter (3) won here just two starts ago and was claimed in the last two and three out of the last 5 outings. HOF trainer puts his son in the irons here and this may be the first win for the duo in the last 4 tries. Look out. Ash Flat (1) was claimed last time out and now drops off the claim. Barn wins with .16% of those kind. I bet the 6-3 across the board and then box the top 3 in the exactas. I will key the top 3 numbers over/under the 5-7 in two smaller units.

7th: 1-5-4/2-10-7/3-6-8/9…Release McCracken (1) will drop in the high-end claiming ranks for the first time. Should fit nicely here for a top barn operator, who is winning at an .18% rate in 517 starts this year. This one has speed to burn. Just can’t burn too fast, too much. Fight Fiercely (5) ran 3rd here on Sept. 30 and returns as a beaten favorite. Barn wins with .26% of the last 65 to do that. Gets the addition of blinkers here and that could benefit the effort. I bet the 1-5 across the board and then box the top 3 in the exactas. I will key the top 3 numbers over/un Derby the 2-10 in two smaller units.

8th: 2-6/3/1/4-7/5…Major General (2) was a major Stakes player earlier this year before falling to the sidelines. Came back off a layoff to run 3rd here onSept. 30. Makes the 2nd start for the new barn, which wins with .18% of those kind. If this one is right? Could be a butt-kicking in the making. Warrior Johny (6) goes for a top young trainer and is doing very well of late. Won at Saratoga just two starts ago by over 8 lengths. Has speed and will use it. I bet the 2-6 across the board and then box these two sternly in the exactas. I will key the 2-6 over/under the 3-1 in two smaller units.

9th: 5-9/1-2-3-7/4-8/11-6-10…Skelly (5) is the ML favorite here and looks to be the one to beat. HOF trainer saddled this one to a 6-length victory to break the MSW here on Oct. 2. This will be the first try against winners, but looks up to the challenge. I bet the 5 across the board and then box the 5-9 in the exactas. I will key the 5 over/under the 9-1-2-3-7-4-8 in two smaller units.

10th: 7-1-9/2-5-8/6/3-4…Big Dig (7) goes for one of the top young trainers in the game today, and he won one at Churhcill Downs on Wednesday. This 2YO daughter of More Spirit has a 2nd and 3rd in the first two tries. Just missing the win now. Look for this one to be a tough out in this spot. Barn wins with .26% on dirt starts. I bet the 7 across the board and then box the top 3 numbers in the exactas. I will key the 7 over/under the 1-9-2-5-8-6 in two smaller units.
