Stats Are Now Completely Updated

Here’s our looks at tonight’s opener for the Churchill Downs’ September race meet. Going to be fun. Grab a friend. Grab a beer. Grab a few winners. Let’s have some fun.

st: 6-3/5-8/4//2-7…Captivated Drama (6) gets the lean in the ole’ lid-lifter to the Churchill Downs’ September meet. This 3YO gelded son of Stanford drops to the lowest level since nearly breaking the MCL in June at Ellis Park. Won the next out for twice the $20,000 he ran before the race before. Tried allowance company on the grass last time out. Failed experiment. Now, back in the claiming ranks and back on the dirt. Both should help immensely. I bet the 6 sternly across the board and then box the 6-3 in the exactas. I will key the 6 over/under the 3-5-8-4 in two smaller units.

nd: 5-6-2/1-4/3-7…Can’t Hush This (5) drops way down the pecking order here after a couple of uninspiring attempts at Ellis Park. But if you go three races back, this one won easily over the slop at the ole’ “Pea Patch.” No rain in sight tonight, but this one does have 3 wins in 12 tries over fast dirt, Look out. Speed here. I bet the 5 across the board and then box the top 3 in the exactas. I will key the top 3 numbers over/under the 1-4 in two smaller units.

rd: 2-4-11/6-8/9/1-5…Cigarette Boat (2) is pure speed. Both the nautical version and the equine one, as well. This 3YO son of Kantharos has run the last 3 outs over the sod. Has been very close in two of those and has faced tougher doing it. Love the cut back in distance here. Graduation day. Cuore Sacro (4) goes for a highly-underrated trainer, and has run two nice 2nds in a row. Been runner-up in the two lone tries over grass, too. Looks like this one could push the top one along. Salt Spray (11) could upset this apple cart, without a doubt. Will run for the first time since December of 2022. Long time between drinks. But will get Lasix for the first time and the barn wins with .26% of the last 100 to do that. Threat. I bet the 2-11 across the board and then box the top 3 in the exactas. Sternly.

th: 5-2/7-4/3-6//1…Rider’s Special (5) has a win in three previous tries here and returns as a beaten favorite for a HOF trainer. Rider has won with .22% of the last 18 ups for this barn and the trainer wins with .24% of the last 886 to come back as a beaten fan’s choice. Lots to like here. Lots. Kattath (2) won the last time out at Monmouth Park and now travels here for a trainer who is winning with a .26% clip after 90 starts this year. Respect. I bet the 5 across the board and then box the 5-2 in the exactas. I will key the 5-2 over/under the 7-4 in two smaller units.

th: 5-1-9/2/4-8/3-6-7…Remembering (5) will make her first attempt at a route and the barn wins with .15% of the last 88 to do that. Should appreciate the added distance, and the dam of this one has already produced 3 winners from 4 starters. HOF rider up. Take note. My Favorite Girl (1) goes for a trainer not known to win many first time outs. In fact, has won with only .08% of the last 281. Ugh. But this one appears to have some real talent. Consider? Iuka Mits (9) should improve off the first start. Barn wins with only .08% of the last 89 in the second career start, but I like this one’s chances, if able to stay a bit closer in the early proceedings. I bet the 5 across the board and then box the top 3 in the exactas. I will key the top 3 numbers over/under the 2 in two smaller units.

th: 4-1/8-3-6/2/9-5/7…Streaming Now (4) goes for a highly productive trainer, whose horses seemingly always look the part. Ran in a G3 after the initial win at Ellis Park. Should appreciate this spot. Look out. This one could be a good one. A real good one. I bet the 4 across the board and then double/triple down on the win wager. I will box the 4-1 in the exactas. I will key the 4 over/under the 1-8-3-6-2-9-5 in two smaller units.

th: 7-(14)-3/4/8-10/5-11-12/6-9/1…This is a 11/8-mile turf event and I saddle up with Yamato (7). This 6YO is by Artie Schiller, a son of the great grass influencer El Prado. Has run over sod 16 times with a record of 5-2-1. Nice. Toss the marathon effort last out. Figures prominently. Red Run (14) could run well if he were to draw in. But, most likely, he will not make the gate. Quadra Island (3) is one from the barn of Brad Cox. That’s normally enough to put in the mix, right? Look at these odds…8-1 in the ML. Must use for me. I bet the 7-3 across the board and then box the top 3 numbers in the exactas. I will key the 7-3 over/under the 4 in two smaller units.

th: 5-9/3/1/10-11/6-8/4…Mahoney Road (5) gets my checkmark in the finale. This 4YO is trained by Greg Foley, and the hard boot knows how to get them ready. Moves back to the dirt here and that should help. Has 2 thirds in 3 tries over fast dirt. Drops to an all-time low price tag here, too. Can’t hurt. I bet the 5 across the board and then box the 5-9 in the exactas. I will key the 5-9 over/under the 3-1-10-11 in two smaller units.
