Here’s our looks at Ellis Park on Friday’s kickstart to the best of all weekends — the next one:

st: 6-4/1-2/5-7-3…Rungius (6) gets the nod in the ole’ lid-lifter at the ole “Pea Patch” on this Friday. This 3YO gelded son of Liam’s Map ran 2nd last time out, but that was in the slop at Oaklawn Park in mid-December. Off since. Barn wins with .18% when away this long and this one returns as a first-time gelding. Has run very well against much better. Hope that he is right for the return. I Ninety Five (4) ran well at this level last time out. Wake up call event for this one. Can he repeat the effort? I bet the 6 across the board and then double down on the win wager. I will box the 6-4 in the exactas. I will key the 6-4 over/under the 1-2-5-7-3 in two smaller units.

nd: 2-1/4-3-5/6…Eternally Grateful (2) was claimed last time out by a clever barn operation, which wins with .18% of their last 116 to make the barn debut after the purchase. Ran a deep closing 2nd last time out and now moves up to face tougher. Fits here. Uncle Berley (1) has only one win in 17 lifetime tries, but does have 4 seconds and 4 thirds in the resume. This barn is having a very good year and the trainer’s husband has ridden .24% winners in the last 25 for the wife’s barn. I bet the 2-1 across the board and then box these two in the exactas. I will key the 2-1 over/under the 4-3-5-6 in two smaller units.

rd: 8-1-7/2-3-5/4-9-6…Mozlzil (8) is a 2YO son of Uncle Mo and will make the career debut. Barn is winning at a .33% rate this meet with 39 starts. Training well for this start. Dam has thrown a turf winner in the first 5 starters. Luke (1) is another first timer and the barn wins with .14% of the last 69 to do this. Dam has thrown 2 turf winners from the first 9 starters. Chance. Rail is a concern. Company You Keep (9) ran very disappointing in the career debut. Bet down that day but got loose in the Post Parade. Gassed by gate time. Look for the new rider to stay in better control this one. I bet the 8-7 across the board and then box the top 3 numbers in the exactas. I will key the top 3 numbers over/under the 2-3 in two smaller units.

th: 6-5/1-7/2-4/3…Tiny Temper (6) gets the nod here. Gets Lasix for the first time and has run two super ones to begin the career. Off since last October, though, and that is a concern. Hope she can pick up it where she left off. Raindrops on Roses (5) has run three 2nds in a  row and has 4 runner-ups in the first 7 starts. Another 2nd? I bet the 6 across the board and then box the 6-5 in the exactas. I will key the 6-5 over/under the 1-7-2-4 in two smaller units.

th: 8-(14)-2/10-(13)/4-6-9/5-11/1-3-7-12…Fancy Looker (8) may be a solid grass runner. Stakes-placed dam has thrown 2 turf winners from 4 starters and this one ran well in the debut. Gets a new rider, who has won with .18% of the last 17 for this barn operation. Look here. Your Kitten Me (14) has a big shot if she draws in from the AE List. Take a look to see. Maturity Date (2) is a first timer from the barn of Chad Brown, the best turf trainer in the land. Dam of this one is by Scat Daddy and was a winner. But 0 winners from the first 3 starters. I bet the 8 across the board and then box the 8-14-2 in the exactas. I will key the 8 over/under the 14-2-10-13-4-6-9 in two smaller units.

th: 1-5-4/6-8/3-9-11/2/7-10…Charlottesapproval (1) is a first timer, but this one sold for $1 million at the Fasig-Tipton Saratoga Sale a year ago. Working lights out for this debut. Sire gets .16% winners on the first ask. Lots of questions here, but I like this one with a clean break. Needs to be clean. I bet the 1 across the board and then double down on the win wager. I will box the 1-5-4 in the exactas. I will key the 1-5-4 over/under the 6-8 in two smaller units.

th: 7-6/5-1-3//2-4…King Curlin (7) has run this marathon distance twice before and has a 2nd on the resume. Beaten favorites have won .37% of the time for this barn with the last 92 to test the gate. Gets the husband up for the ride. Lots to like here. I’m sold. I bet the 7 across the board and then double down on the win wager. I will box the 7-6 in the exactas. I will key the 7–6 over/under the 5-1-3 in to smaller units.

th: 3-5-11/6-(13)/2-8-12/4-10/1-9…Pumpkin Scone (3) is a 3YO daughter of Into Mischief. This gal brought $1.2 million at he 2021 KEE September Yearling Sale. Lots of money to purchase, and has run 2 runner-ups to begin the career. Lots to like, but lots of running to do to get back the purchase price. I bet the 3 across the board and then box the top 3 numbers in the exactas. I will key the 3 over/under the 5-11-6-13-2-8-12-4-10 in two smaller units.

th: 7-4/(15)-(16)-(14)-10-12/8/1-9-11…Absolute Courage (7) gets the nod here. Goes from dirt to turf and the blinkers come off. Barn wins with .14% when making this surface switch and with .18% when losing the shades. Trainer’s son up. Spuns Son (4) has 15 career starts. Just one second on the resume. Ugh. I bet the 7 across the board and then double down on the win wager. I will key the 7 over/under the4 4-15-16-14-10-12-8 in the exactas.
