We have been on a roll of late at the ole’ “Pea Patch.” Over the last 3-day span, we have won with over .40% of our top picks and our “Exactas Selections” have been off-the-charts good.

In short?

Summer has arrived with full intent and we have heated up alongside for the ride.

Here’s hoping we can stay hot this coming Friday-Saturday-Sunday sweep, and here’s our looks to kick off the extended weekend:

1st: 5-4-6/3-2/1-7…The Princess Says 95) gets the nod in the ole’ lid-lifter at the ole’ “Pea Patch” on this Friday morn. The 3YO Collected filly drops to the lowest price tag of her brief career, to date, and that may wake up this one, who threw a clunker in the grass experiment last time out. Two back, this one ran much better against much better. Has shown some ability. Rider is having a solid meet. Ziggzappa (4) has never been really close at the wire, but has never been blown out, either. Gets a new rider who is having a very good meet. May improve here. I bet the 5 across the board and then box the top 3 in the exactas. I will key the top 3 numbers over/under the 3-2 in two smaller units.

2nd: 1/2-3/4-5-8-6//7…The first Key Play of the Day comes here with Ten Count (1). This 3YO gelded son of Not This Time has run over the sod in two previous tries. Has a win and a 2nd. Trainer is having a very good year, winning at a .25% rate after the first 113 starts. Husband-Jockey takes the mount and has won with .32% of the last 28 for the Wife-Trainer. Look out here. Loads of speed and talent. I bet the 1 to win/place/show and then double down on the win wager. I will key the 1 over/under the 2-3-4-5-8-6 in the exactas. More on top and more with the 2-3 than the rest.

3rd: 2-4-1/3-6//7/5…Uncle Berley (2) is another from the barn of Brittany Vanden Berg, who has 2 wins in 5 starts here this meet. This one drops back to the original claiming level and has run better in the past. Barn has won with .52% of the last 33 to make the 2nd start off a claim purchase. Those are simply “Wow” numbers. I’m in. I bet the 2 across the board and double down on the win wager. I will box the 2-4-1 in the exactas. And, I will key the 2 over/under the 4-1-3-6 in two smaller units, as well.

4th: 2-6-5/8-1/3/7/4…Xylophone (2) goes for a solid claiming barn operation, which is looking for its’ first win of the meet. Dangerous combo there. Returns as a beaten favorite and the barn wins with .25% of those kind. Like the drop here and the rider is having a very good meet. I’m sold. I bet the 2 across the board and then box the top 3 numbers in the exactas. I will key the top 3 numbers over/under the 8-1 in two smaller units. Spread race in the horizontal plays for me, too. (Pick 3, 4 & 5).

5th: 3-8-4/1-(12)/5-6-9/7-10-(11)/2…Turf race at the 1-mile distance for the 2YOs, and I saddle up with Casper (3). This son of Ghostzapper will make the career debut here and he’s out of a Stakes-winning mare who has already thrown 3 turf winners. Top connections here and the work on July 20 was spot on. Lots to like here. I bet the 3 across the board and then double down on the win wager. I will box the 3-8-4 in the exactas. I will key the 3 over/under the 8-4-1-12-5-6-9 in two smaller units, as well.

6th: 6-2/4-5/3-11/1-10/7-8-9-12…Musical Diva (6) looks good here for the Brad Cox barn. Trainer is winning at a huge .44% rate after 18 starts here this meet. Crazy number. Gets a good gate rider for the first start and is training lights out. Lights. Out. I’m in. I bet the 6 across the board and then double down on the win wager. I will box the 6-2 in the exactas. I will key the 6 over/under the 2-4-5-3-11-1-10 in two smaller units.

7th: 2/4-7/12-10-8/(13)-(14)/11/1-5-9-6…The next Key Play of the Day comes here with Lemon Bomb (2). This 3YO daughter of Army Mule comes into this one off a near-miss 2nd here on June 24. Closing like crazy in that one an d just missed at the wire. Has run 2 runner-ups in 2 grass race. Made for the sold, this one. Look out late. I bet the 2 across the board and then double down on the win wager. I will key the 2 over/under the 4-7-12-10-8-13-14 in the exactas. More on top. More with the 4-7 than the rest.

8th: 3/5-8-7/9/4-6/1/2…The next Key Play of the Day comes here with Rider’s Special (3). I like this one more than most of the other public handicappers. And, here’s why. Has run well here with two placings in just two starts over this surface. Has a win and a runner-up in tries at the distance. New rider has won with .22% of the last 18 for this barn. And? Looks poised for a big one, to me. I bet the 3 across the board and then double down on the win wager. I will key the 3 over/under the 5-8-7-9-4-6-1 in the exactas. More on top. More with the 5-8-7 than the rest.

9th: 7-(13)/3-5-8-4/9-11/2-(14)/1-10…The finale is a 11/16-mile event over the grass for the MCL level and I will give the edge to Drama Critic (7). This one has only 1 runner-up performance in 6 previous grass tries, but drop to nearly half the asking price this time and three races ago ran a huge one at Horseshoe Indianapolis. Rider is doing OK this meet and gets the 7-pound apprentice allowance. I like the chances at solid odds. I bet the 7 across the board and then double down on the win wager. I will box the 7-13 if that latter draws in from the AE List. If not? I key the 7 over/under the 3-5-8-4-9-11-2 in the exactas. More on top. More with the 3-5-8-4 than the rest.
