(Stats to be updated after Ellis Park’s card on Saturday)

Here’s our looks at the Ellis Park card on Sunday, which will require a Mandatory Payout on the Pick 6…Happy hunting…

st: 8-5/7/1-6/2-3-4…Sparkle of Hope (8) gets the nod in the ole’ lid-lifter down at the ole’ “Pea Patch” on this Sunday Funday. This 5YO Tapizar mare comes in off three really good races in a row. Could have won any of those. But didn’t. Still has only the one win in 17 tries now. Maybe she just likes to be runner-up? Still, she should get a shot in the lane here. Empire of My Own (5) has speed and if you have that single, one, ingredient on this track? You have a shot. This 3YO daughter of Classic Empire just missed here in the slop on June 11. Back again and the barn does win with .22% of the last 100 making the 2nd start off the layoff. I bet the 5 — take note — to win/place/show and then box the 8-5 in the exactas. I will key the 8-5 over/under the 7-1-6 in two smaller units.

nd: 2-5-8/11/12-1-9/3/4-7/6/10…Trident Hit (2) drops in the high-end claiming ranks here for the first time and this barn wins with only .09% of the last 65 to do that. Has done well here with a 3-1-2 mark in the first 10 starts. Gets a top rider. Chance. Zoomer (5) drops another rung in the claiming game here and should be considered. Has 2 wins in 4 career starts at this distance. Cool Rags (8) is 8-1 in the ML but rates a chance for me. This barn is red hot and this guy took to the main track nicely last time out. I bet the 2-5 across the board and then box the top 3 in the exactas. I will key the top 3 numbers over/under the 11 in two smaller units.

rd: 1-3-4/6/2//5…Debutante Stakes…This is a 6-furlong Stakes event for the 2YO fillies, and I will saddle up with Hibernacle (1). This daughter of Hootenanny was bred by trainer Wesley Ward, who won the first start of this one’s career by over 7 lengths at KEE in April. Since then, though, this gal was purchased for $310,000 at the KEE April Sale. Now, she switches to a high-profile rider, who has won with .27% of the last 33 for this trainer. V V’s Dream (3) was an easy winner in the career debut, as well, capturing the first start by over 6 lengths at Churchill Downs. Has been working super. Big shot here, too. Brightwork (4) will get a nice rider switch and must be considered. I bet the 1-3 across the board and then box the top 3 numbers in the exactas. I will key the 1-3-4 over/under the 6-2 in two smaller units.

th: 5-6-12/3-8-1/10-(14)/(13)-2-4-7-11…This is the first grass race of the day and it will be contested at 11/16-miles over the patchwork of green. I give the edge to Tommy Bee (5), who is a whopping 12-1 in the ML. This 4YO gelded son of Medaglia d’Oro has run over the sod 8 times before this race. Has gone 2-3-1 in those events. Rider has gone 4-2-0 in the last 11 races. One to beat. Point Me By (6) couldn’t match strides with the group in the last race. Simply, too tough. But the two races before that, this 5YO son of Point of Entry was a salty second on both occasions. Could pop here. I bet the 5-12 across the board and then box the top three numbers in the exactas. I will key the 5-6-12 over/under the 3-8 in two smaller units.

th: 3-1-4/2/6//5-7…Bashford Manor Stakes…Go Otto Go (3) won the career opener by over 4 lengths and returns here with a sparkling resume. The son of Bolt d’Oro could make it #2 in a quick hurry. Wilson Q (1) won his opener by a neck  and both the runner-up and “show” horse came right back to win the next outing. Wow. it looks on paper that this one may be the real deal. Call Me Andy (4) won the first start and was well supported at the windows that day, as well. Gets a top rider to return to the saddle job. Has credentials. Can use them. I bet the 3-4 across the board and then box the top 3 numbers in the exactas. I will key the top 3 over/under the 2-6 in two smaller units.

th: 10-3-7/6-1-2/4-5-11/9/8…Mr McGregor (10) gets top billing here. Has hit the board in the last three and this barn wins with .12% of the last 109 to cutback from a route to a sprint distance. Rider is top notch. Carcano (3) gets Lasix for the first time and that may be just what the veterinarian orders. Has hit the board in each of the first four career starts, but seems to hang in the late going. May find a way with the anti-bleeder added to the mix. Arro Smash (7) goes for a top young trainer, who just picked up another win here on Saturday. Having a great meet with limited runners. Working great for the inaugural start. Great. I bet the 10-7 across the board and then box the top 3 numbers in the exactas. I will key the 10-7 over/under the 3-6-1-2-4-5-11 in two smaller units.

th: 6-3/1-2-5//4//7-8…Anchorage Stakes…White Frost (6) is a 5YO mare by Candy Ride and has run in three straight Graded Stakes events. Has raced over the sod 7 times. Has 3 wins; 3 seconds and a third. My first Key Play of the Day. I bet? I bet the 6 across the board and double down on the win wager. I will box the 6-3 sternly. I will key the 6-3 over/under the 1-2-5 in two smaller units.

th: 1-11/6-4-5-2-8-10//7-9/3…Maxfield Stakes…Ryvit (1) has won four races in a row and two of those were Stakes events. Today, he will stretch out to 7 furlongs for the first time and that may be a “stretch” for this speedy type son of Competitive Edge. Barn wins with .20% when the steed won the last race, and, of course, this one did that. Rider is having a superb meet and may have found a home in KY. Squire Creek (11) will stretch out to the 7-furlong distance here for the first time, as well. Nearly won a Stakes event at Belmont Park last time out. Just tired at the end of that one. If he got some extra wind built up now? Look out. I bet the 1 across the board and then box the 1-11 in the exactas. I will key those two numbers over/under the 6-4-5-2-8-10 in two smaller units.

th: 1-8/9/2-3/6-7/5/4…Hanshin Stakes…This is a 1-mile event over the main dirt track and I will once again go to the rail for my selection — Zozos (1). This son of Munnings — who was a “hot horse” going into the 2022 Kentucky Derby — finally found his best stride at Churchill Downs this time around when he won the Knicks Go Stakes, leading from start to finish line. Same rider returns here and the trainer is as good as they come in this sport today. Look for this one to toss a good one, after a great work on June 25. Three Technique (8) is much better than advertised, and won another one at Churchill Downs last time out. This guy won the Knicks Go Stakes in 2022. So the last two winners of that prestigious Stakes are facing off here. Should be interesting. I bet the 1 across the board and double down on the win wager. Triple down, too. I will key the 1 over/under the 8-9-2-3-6-7 in the exactas. Lots more with the 8-9 than the rest of them.

th: 11-10/12-2/6/1-7/5-8-9/3-4…The finale is a 7-furlong sprint for the MSW company and I will go to the outside to line up with both of my top two selections. Wild Thinker (11) is my top pick. This one has run two solid 2nds in a row and the rider is red hot over the last week. He’s gone 6-2-6 in the last 24 mounts. Has stalking speed. Just needs to finish it off. Cusp (10) is 8-1 in the ML and could make a huge improve here. My first Upset Alert. So? I bet the 11-10 across the board and then box these two i the exactas. Sternly. I will key the 11-10 over/under the 12-2-6-1-7 in two smaller units.
