We are back at it.
The Kentucky Derby hangover is starting to wear off and the races are back on.
And, we journey up to Horseshoe Indianapolis today for a little Monday action.
Here’s our looks:
1st: 2-5/4/6-1/3…She Ranup the Annex (2) gets the nod in the ole’ lid-lifter at Horseshoe Indianapolis today. The 3YO Mohaymen filly nearly won at this level last time out. Gets the meet’s top rider back up. Just nipped at the wire. Longer distance could help this closer and the barn wins at a rate of .24% on the 2nd start after a claim purchase. Trainer has won with .21% of the first 28 starters, too. My solid choice here. Mississippi Muse (5) drops to the lowest pricetag ever here. Gets an apprentice rider to take the rein. Gets a 10-pound weight allowance and that can’t hurt. In three previous tries here? Has a 3rd. I bet the 2 across the board and then box the 2-5 in the exactas. I will key the 2-5 over/under the 4 in two smaller units.
2nd: 2-5-4/8/6-7/9-1…I will go right back to the #2 hole here, and saddle up with Z Zs Red (2). This 3YO daughter of Mr. Z got nipped by a nose last time out here on April 27. Wheels right back and could be a tough out with a similar performance. Work before the last race was spot on. Looks ready. Climber (5) ran 2nd here on April 27, as well. Has speed and set the early fractions. May be tougher to catch in the 2nd try off the layoff. Barn wins with .13% of those kind. Mamala Kamala (4) goes for a top, top barn operation — which has won with .29% of the first 58 starts this year. But? But this meet the trainer is 0-0-0 in 7 starts. That’s going to change. May start here. Look out. I bet the 2-5 across the board and then box the top 3 in the exactas. I will key the top 3 numbers over/under the 8 in two smaller units.
3rd: 9-7/4/3-8-10/6/2-5/1…The first turf race of the day and I go with Splash of Tonic (9), who is a solid 6-1 in the ML here. Like it. This 3YO Indiana-bred is a daughter of Prontonico and the dam has thrown a winner from her first starter. This will be the first try on the grass surface, but the barn wins with .11% of those. Works are solid. Could pop at a price. Louder Than Words (7) may be the horse to beat. Broke the MSW on the grass here last August. Ran in two Stakes after that over the dirt. Backed up when stretching out. Question is, whether she can get the distance. Quality is there. Will close. Should be the PT favorite. I bet the 9-7 across the board and then box these two in the exactas. I will key the 9-7 over/under the 4-3-8-10 in two smaller units.
4th: 3/8-9-2/7-5/1…The first “Key Play of the Day” comes here with Tappintothebeat (3). This one broke the MSW last time out and faces winners for the first time. Tough adjustment to ask, but the barn wins with .19% climbing this ladder. In 5 tries here, now has a record of 1-0-2. Has speed. Can rock and roll. Trainer and jockey have teamed up to go 3-1-2 in the last 8 starts. I’m in. I bet the 3 across the board and then key the 3 over/under the numbers listed. More with the 8-9-2.
5th: 4-3-2/5-6-11/1-8/10-9…Sunny Lane (4) is a 3YO filly by Mastery and comes from the Brad Cox barn. The trainer is 2-2-2 in the first 7 starts here. Look out. May set a record this meet. Gets the meet’s top rider to take the reins here, too. First timer and the barn wins with .18% when debuting on the grass. Sharp work on May 3. Captaire (3) ships in from Lexington for a new trainer. Gets Lasix for the first time, too. Works are good. Has the breeding. Look out. Kendal Grace (2) could spice up the odds rack here a bit. I can toss the race in the mud last time out. If you do that? Fits here. I bet the 4-2 across the board and then box the top 3 in the exactas. I will key the top 3 numbers over/under the 5-6 in two smaller units.
6th: 2-6-7/8-1-4-10/9-3…Iwannabeperfect (2) could give us a hot “Twos-day” on a Monday. This 4YO Indiana-bred has not raced since November, but the barn wins with .17% off the gap. Has talent. Gets a familiar rider back up. Works are solid. Could happen. Tap the Line (6) has been racing at Oaklawn Park against open company. No threat in those, but may be fitter than the rest of the. In 6 starts here? Has a 0-2-1 mark. Chance. Jazzy’s Rebellion (7) is a first time starter and the dam has a winner from 1 starter. Works are spot on. Chance II. I bet the 2-6 across the board and then box the top 3 in the exactas. I will key the top 2 numbers over/under the 7-8-1-4-10 in two smaller units.
7th: 10/5-7-3/6-9/1-8/2-4-11-12…This starts a string of three “Key Plays of the Day” in a row. Lolloping (10) is another from the Brad Cox barn. Ran in a Stakes at the Fair Grounds just two back. Looks much the best here and has the speed to stalk the leaders from the get-go. Strong work on May 4. I’m in. I bet the 10 across the board and then key the 10 over/under the 5-7-3-6-9-1 in the exactas. More with the 5-7-3 than the rest.
8th: 5/3-4/2-9-(11)/1-7-10-(12)…The second “Key Play of the Day” in this trilogy comes here with Already Charming (5). And, yep. This is another from Brad Cox. This 3YO More Than Ready filly gets Lasix for the first time and the barn wins with a whopping .40% of the last 134 to go the anti-bleeder. Top rider up. I’m game. I bet the 5 across the board and then key the 5 over/under the 3-4-2-9-1 in the exactas. More with the 3-4 than the rest.
9th: 3/4-6/2/5-7-8-9/1…The final “Key Play of the Day” comes in the only Quarter Horse race of the day and with Wrs Raise the Bar (3). This one has not started since last October, but has a record of 2-5-1 in the first 12 career starts. Has been running in some tougher and more advanced company. Top outfit and the works are spot on. Won the 2021 opener. May duplicate that effort here. I bet the 3 across the board and then key the 3 over/under the 4-6-2-5-7-8-9 in the exactas. More with the 4-6-2 than the rest.
Good Luck & All the Best / Gene
