(Stats to be updated after Horseshoe Indianapolis’ card on Wednesday, Aug. 23)

Here’s our looks at the Saturday afternoon card at “The Shoe,” with first post set for 12 Noon ET:

st: 1-6/2-7/5/3-4/8…Summer in Malibu (1) gets the nod in the ole’ lid-lifter at “The Shoe” on this Saturday program — which will bleed right into the magnificent card at Saratoga today, as well. This 4YO gelded son of Malibu Moon comes in off a nice 2nd here on Aug. 3. Sped away in that one and just tired at the end of the 6 furlong test. Cuts back in distance here and that should help. Bourbon Spirit (6) goes for the barn of Brad Cox and the team is winning at a .32% rate after 53 starts this meet. Won the last time out and now moves up after an impressive win as the odds-on favorite. Barnm wins with .30% when trying to repeat and with .22% when making the third start off the layoff. Rider has won with .31% of the last 16 for this outfit. I bet the 6 — take note — to win/place/show and then box the 1-6 in the exactas. I will key the 1-6 over/under the 2-7-5-3-4 in two smaller units.

nd: 7-6-5/2/1-3-4…First of His Name (7) goes for a top barn operation, which has won with .29% of the first 14 starts here this meet, but has won with .25% of 92 starts this year, as well. This rider has gone winner’s circle with .22% of the last 23 for the barn. Trainer wins with .29% on the 2nd career start. Big shot here. Sticky Note (6) will make the career debut for a trainer who has won with .27% of the last 70 to make the first career effort. When racing over a mile on debut? Barn wins with .33%. Like the works here, too. Must use for me. I bet the 7-6 across the board and then box the top 3 numbers in the exactas. I will key the top 3 numbers over/under the 2 in two smaller units.

rd: 4-3-5/6/2-7/1…This is a 6-furlong sprint for the Indy-breds and I will saddle up with Brittanysgldnfaith (4). Has hit the board on 6 of 7 lifetime tries and picks up the apprentice rider again here. Trainer wins with .18% in the allowance ranks. Really like this daughter of Greeley’s Conquest. I bet the 4 across the board and then box the top 3 in the exactas. I will key the top 3 numbers over/under the 6 in two smaller units.

th: 1-4/8-6/2/3-5-9-10…This is the first grass race of the day and will mark the sod debut of our very own Knight’s Move (4). Don’t know if he will like this very hard and speed-favoring grass course or not. To be decided. But this 4YO gelding has been training well and ran much better than looks on paper in the 2023 debut. Gallop out with stern and the race was simply too short for him. Look for this guy to out-run his odds and he will be my Upset Special of the Day. Then again? We own him. I bet the 4 across the board and double down on the win wager. I will box the 1-4 in the exactas. I will key the 1-4 over/under the 8-6-2- in two smaller units.

th: 11-3/7-10-6/4-8///1-9/2-5…Berea (11) goes for a top barn operator in these parts and has run two very nice ones in a row to begin the 2023 year. Meet’s top rider gets the mount and that should help this one immensely. I’m all in here. I bet the 11 across the board and then box the 11-3 in the exactas. I will key the 11-3 over/under the 7-10-6-4-8 in two smaller units.

th: 5-7-4/8-2/1-9/2-6…This grass event will be contested at 11/16-miles and I ante up with Irish Aces (5). This 3YO gelding will make the 2023 debut here after an extended layoff. Trainer wins with .20% off the bench. Drop in class should help and the inaugural run here on Oct. 3, 2022 signals some talent. Rider wins with only .03% of the last 65 on the sod, though. Ugh. Cable Boss (7) is another from the same barn and may be the one to use. This one ran 2nd here on July 7≥ That was over the grass course. New rider has won with 1 of 3 for this trainer over the last 60 days. My bet is here. Take note. Washington’s Union (4) goes for a highly under-rated trainer and the rider can boot on the sod. Wins with .14% of the last 58 grass races. this one has hit the board in each of the last two and will be the speed of this one. Come catch me. I bet the 7-4 — take note — across the board and then box the top 3 numbers in the exactas. I will key the top 3 over/under the 8-2 in two smaller units.

th: 7-8/4-5-9/6-3/2/1…Unbridled Talent (7) has hit the board in each of the last 3 outs and has a 2-2-2 mark in just 9 career races. Has speed and may be able to take these all the way with a solid speed rider. Take note. Amazingness (8) has just one win in 20 starts here. Ugh. Ugh. Ugh. But does have 6 seconds and 7 more thirds. Underneath? I bet the 7 across the board and then double down on the win wager. I will key the 7 over/under the 8-4-5-9-6-3-2 in the exactas. More with the 8-4-5-9 than the rest. I will key the 8 under the “all button,” as well.

th: 1-4/2-3/5/7//6…Pond Walker (1) gets the nod in the finale, a 11/16-mile grass event. This Brit-bred comes from a great pedigree and that may have to carry this one a long way. Won the debut in style at Monmouth Park last year. Only one race since. Comes here with big things in mind for a 4YO filly looking to pad the resume for a broodmare prospect. I’ll buy. I bet the 1 across the board and double down on the win wager. I will box the 1-4 in the exactas. I will key the 1-4 over/under the 2-3-5-7 in two smaller units.
