Here’s our looks at the very nice card put on the calendar by the good folks up at Horseshoe Indianapolis:

st: 3-6/1-4/5-7/2…My Honey’s Perfect (3) has not been out in over a year and now will have to rebound off an extended vacation against others who are better prepped and geared up. But? This 4YO gelded son of Majesticperfection is our go-to in the ole’ lid-lifter up at “The Shoe.” This one was claimed for $50,000 in April 2021. Been off since then, but the works are solid and falls to the $12,500 range here. Barn wins with .24% when dropping this much at one time. Fifty Two Pickup (6) goes for one of the hottest trainers to ever run at this locale, no matter what the name has been. Has gone 15-5-11 in 42 starts so far this meet. Wow numbers. Should be the one to beat here. Ran a tiring 4th last time out at this same level. Could improve in the 2nd start since the claim. Barn wins with .30% of those kind. I bet the 6 — take note — to win/place/show and then box the 3-6 in the exactas. I will key the 3-6 over/under the 1-4-5-7 in two smaller units.

nd: 4-1/5-2/3/6…Blessed With Luck (4) drops another rung in the claiming ladder after running a solid 3rd against tougher last time out. Has hit the board in each of the last two and figures at this level and against this group. Barn wins with .21% in the claiming ranks. Gemo Rain (1) gets the rail trip here and is likely to put to good use. This one is a speedster and will gun it from the gate, to be sure. Can he hold on? Time will tell, in more ways than one. I bet the 4 across the board and then box the 4-1 in the exactas. I will key the 4-1 over/under the 5-2-3 in two smaller units.

rd: 6-3/1-2/5-4…Purr Sea (6) is our top number in this affair, after running a tiring 4th last time out. Has speed. Can use it early and often. Returns here as a beaten favorite and the barn wins with .48% of the last 21 to qualify for that title. Illinois-bred looks tough in this spot. Pipeline Girl (3) is another from the barn of Tom Amoss, and this one looks like she could be a threat here, too. Been running against much tougher at Churchill Downs and now picks up a rider who has won with .28% of the first 68 mounts this meet. Threat. I bet the 6-3 across the board and then box these two in the exactas. I will key the 6-3 over (only) the 1-2-5-4 in a smaller unit.

th: 4-8-6/1-2-9/3-7/5…Mornin’ Boss (4) ran a huge 2nd here on debut on June 2. Nearly won that affair. Gets the meet’s top rider in the irons today and that could spell the difference. Look for this one to move early and pounce late. Figures. Happy Gal (8) is a first timer for the barn of Wesley Ward. Has been training lights out at KEE. Hard to dismiss this guy with a youngster. Queen of Atlantis (6) is another who will make the debut here, too. Sharp work on July 21 here. Barn wins with only .07% of the last 91 on the first ask, though, and that is a concern. I bet the 4-8 across the board and then box the top 3 in the exactas. I will key the 4-8 over/under the 6-1-2-9 in two smaller units.

th: 3-8/7-2/5-9/1-4/6…Kisses So Sweet (3) gets the nod here. This 3YO daughter of Klimt drops into the claiming ranks for the first time since the career debut. Barn is winning at a .21% rate this meet and the rider has won with .20% for this trainer. Class drop should pick this one’s head up, a bit. Lashes (8) did run a nice 2nd here in April, but has fired two misses in a row. One of those was over the mud. The other resulted in a speed dual that didn’t work out. Meet’s top rider returns here and could spot just off the leaders, this time around. I bet the 3 across the board and then box the 3-8 in the exactas. I will key the63-8 over/under the 72-5-9 in two smaller units.

th: 11-12/1-3-9/4-2-5/8-6/10-7…This is the 2nd turf event of the day and will be contested at the 1-mile distance. I line up with the far outside in Last Hurrah (11). This 3YO gal comes in off two 2nds in a row, and those races follow four 3rds in a row. May be a “hanger” but this one looks to be the one to beat with a rider who is capturing .19% of his races. Miss Luv Shack (12) could upset the cart here, though. this one ran a huge 2nd last time out and now tries the sod for the first time. Barn wins with .14% on this surface change. First time with the route distance, too, and the barn wins with only .05% of those kind. I bet the 11 across the board and then box the 11-12-1 in the exactas. I will key those 3 numbers over/under the 3-9 in two smaller units.

th: 2-9/5-3/8/6/11/10-1-7…Bluegrass Prayer (2) nearly won here last time out and should be better this time around in only the 3rd career opportunity. Looks like grad day is possible for this one. Trainer wins with .60% of the last 5 to return as a beaten favorite. Wow. Jericho Express (9) has run two solid 2nds in a row, too, though, and could be a huge obstacle. Was odds-on last time out and this barn wins with .25% of the last 68 to qualify as a beaten fan’s choice. Battle royal. I bet the 2 across and then box the 2-9 sternly in the exactas. I will key the 2-9 over/under 5-3-8 in two smaller units.

th: 1-12-11/4-10/5-3-8/7-9/2-6….Outlining (1) ran off in the career debut to win by 5 over 3 lonesome opponents and now must move up to face winners for the firsts time. I would normally dodge this kind, but this filly is trained by Brad Cox’s team — which is winning at a .26% rate here this meet. Gets to the sod where they wanted to be the first time out. Has speed. Can rock. Will roll. The 1-mile distance may be the perfect call. Elle Est Forte (12) ships in for Ian Wilkes and he brings along the son-in-law for the mount. Should figure here and could close out the proceedings with a nice kick. Has been facing much tougher at Churchill Downs. I bet the 1-12 across the board and then box the 1-12-11 in the exactas. I will key those 3 numbers over/under the 4-10 in two smaller units.

th: 5-7/3-4-6-8/2/1…Image Run (5) ran a solid 2nd here on debut last October. Off since then, but the barn can win off the bench and this one has been working out here, too. Was well bet in the debut race and gets a solid jockey in the irons, who has won with .13% of the last 45 for this barn operation. Anaita (7) is my first “Upset Special of the Day.” This 3YO daughter of Lea ran 4th on debut and tired for much of the stretch. But she should benefit from that exercise and the meet’s top rider returns for the saddle job. Look out here. I bet the 7 — take note — across the board and then box the 5-7 in the exactas. I will key the 7 over/under the 5-3-4-6-8-2 in two smaller units.

th: 1-5-2/7-10/4-8-9/3/6…Horseshoe Indianapolis QHRAI Derby Purse Stakes … This is a Stakes event for the Quarter Horses and will be contested at 400 yards. I give the edge to the railbird, if he can break clean and run straight. Key for the inside. But…Rock Candy Blue (1) seems to have the speed and the experience to do just that. One Night Too Long (5) goes for a top QH barn operation here and comes off two straight wins. May be the one to beat. Lots of speed here. Kiss Me at Midnight (2) is another from the Randy Smith barn and has some potential to kick start and kick butt, too. Comes in off a nice win last out to begin the 2022 campaign. I bet the 5 — take note — to win/place/show and then box the top 3 numbers in the exactas. I will key the 1-5
