Stats have been updated after Wednesday morning’s card at Churchill Downs
Here’s our looks for Horseshoe Indianapolis on Wednesday night — first post set at 6:45 p.m. ET. Two nice Stakes events are carded on the program — for the 3YO colts and fillies going two turns.
st: 9-2-12/3-8-11-4/5-7/10-1…Already Charming (9) gets the nod in the ole’ lid-lifter up at the Horseshoe Indianapolis circuit in Shelbyville, IN. This 3YO daughter of More Than Ready should appreciated a little drop in the class regiment and will make the 2022 debut for the hot barn of Brad Cox with the addition of Lasix for the first time. Barn wins with .39% of those getting treated with the anti-bleeder for the initial go. Gets the meet’s top rider up here. Lot to like off the bench. Forgotten Realm (2) is another from the Cox shed row and this one has run twice this year, already. Was spot on last time out, when losing by a nose over the main track. Returns to the turf here and has a sharp work to tune up. Barn wins with .30% when returning as a beaten favorite, and has scored with .29% of the first 31 to run here this meet. Pure Country (12) may warrant some consideration. Has run against tougher and the race two back was sporty enough. I bet the 9-2 across the board and then box the top 3 in the exactas.
nd: 4-3-11/7-10-9/5-1-6-8/2…Macho Justice (4) is my first “Upset Special of the Day.” This 2YO gelding will try other Indy-bred here and gets the services of a young rider who does a good job. Weight allowance for the apprentice may help here, as well. Chance. Jenny’s Beignet (3) goes for a top trainer here, but is a bit chilly on the year, so far. Has won with only .05% of 74 starts in 2022. Rider is 0-for-29 this meet, as well. Dam has 2 winners from 2 starters and 2 Stakes winners. Got that going in the good column. Hectors Trojanwife (11) is another debut runner and this one comes from a dam who has tossed 6 winners from 6 starters. Even I can figure out that is 100%. Young lady can ride takes the mount. May spice up the odds rack. I bet the 4-3 across the board and then box the top 3 numbers in the exactas. I will key the 4-3 over/under the 11-7-10-9 in two smaller units.
rd: 1-5-11/3-6-10/(13)-7-8/11-(14)…Vigilantia (1) will make the first start for the new barn operation and first outing since mid-January here. Moved East after a couple of runs in California. Gets a hot trainer, who is 2-2-1 in 7 starts here and an equally hot rider, who is 2-2-1 in 7 mounts here. Into Mischief may be shopping for that first and elusive win, but may have found the right spot here. Trouble Making (5) ran a good one to be 2nd here last time out by a skinny neck. Barn wins with .16% of those returning as a beaten favorite and this gal has a sharp work on June 15. Another Into Mischief looking for a spot to nab that win? Plan of the Day (11) is a first timer who has been working lights out for a trainer who is having another super year. Can’t dismiss this one folks. I bet the 1-11 across the board and then box the top 3 in the exactas. I will key the top 3 numbers over/under the 3-6-10 in two smaller units.
th: 3-11-4/1-7/2-6-12/8-9-10…Mygaljustice (3) has run two runner-ups in a row and the winner of the last race came right back to win the next one, too. First start of 2022, and looks poised. Barn wins with .11% off the bench and gets the meet’s top rider to handle the chores. I’m sold. Love Drunk (11) ran well here in the mud last time out and could be fitter for this one. Chance. Shiny Shoes (4) was right there at the wire last time out, but must move up from the $10,000 MCL ranks to this level. Barn wins with .33% when moving into the MSW ranks. I bet the 3 across the board and then box the top 3 numbers in the exactas. I will key the 3-11 over/under the 4-1-7-2-6-12 in two smaller units.
th: 10-8-11/2/1-4-5-9/3-7…This is a 1-mile turf race for the gals and I go with Fast Summer (10), from the outside part of the gate. This 3YO daughter of Frosted is trained by the Cox clan and has been training lights out for this first effort. Gets the meet’s top rider. Love the ML odds of 6-1, too. Won’t get those, but like the thought. I’m in here. I bet the 10 across the board and then box the top 3 numbers in the exactas. I will key the top 3 numbers over/under the 2 in two smaller units.
th: 6-10/5/1-3-7-8/2-9/4…Hoosier Breeders’ Sophomore Stakes (fillies)…This is the first Stakes event of the night and will be contested at 11/16-miles over the main track. Dirt has played to speed all meet and may provide the early runners a leg up. Louder Than Words (6) is a stalker who should carve out a great trip here and is coming off a nice win in the 2022 debut on May 9. Training well for the repeat effort and the barn operator has won with .20% of 98 starters this year. Like this looks of this 3YO daughter of Mr Speaker. I bet the 6 across the board and then box the 6-10 in the exactas. I will key the 6-10 over/under the 5-1-3-7-8 in two smaller units.
th: 6-4-1/11-12-10-2/9-5/7-8/3…Hoosier Breeders’ Sophomore Stakes…This is the boy’s version of the same Stakes event and it is loaded. From hither to yon with both talent and speed, speed, speed, speed. If speed is carrying around two turns? Then there is plenty of it here to put on full display. I will give the stern edge to Mowins (6). This 3YO son of Mohaymen has won at two turns here and ran well against open company in the Bachelor Stakes at Oaklawn Park in April. Will last the distance. Should be coming in the stretch. Latino (4) will be stretching out to the two turns for the first time, but is undefeated in 3 career starts, to date, and has the kind of stalking speed it may take to put all the others away. Trainer having a nice meet. Knight’s Move (1) is our very own 3YO son of Majestic Harbor and he will have to move up the educational ladder quickly here. Just broke his maiden last time out in the career debut on May 31. Wheels right back. We think he is a horse that will love the stretch out to two turns and worth taking a shot in the Stakes race here, due to the fact that route, dirt allowances are hard to come by these days. If the speed goes, goes, goes? We could be coming, coming, coming. Chance. Or we think so. I bet the 1 across the board and then box the top 3 in the exactas. I will also key the 6-1 over/under the 4-11-12-10-2-9 in two smaller units. Go Knight’s Move. Let’s have some fun.
th: 8-3-5/4-10-1/2-6-7-9…This is a 4.5-furlong sprint for the 2YO gals and I will go with Honey Red (8). This gal is a daughter of the grand Indy-bred sprinter Bucchero and has a nice run on debut to call on for experience. Should improve off that one and be a tough out with one of the meet’s leading riders back in the saddle here. Look out. Passionforjustice (3) ran 34d on debut and could move up the charts here for a trainer have a nice meet. Well bet in the first effort. Look to see if the money comes back again. I bet the 8 across the board and then box the top 3 in the exactas. I will key the top 3 numbers over/under the 4-10-1 in two smaller units.
th: 3-4-1/2-7-9/6-8/5…Barbie Jean (3) drops from the $12,500 level to the “bargain bin” here and should appreciate the class drop. Barn wins with a whopping .38% of those that get this kind of relief all at one time. Rider is having a nice week and could push this one to the front early and often. Cabin Abby (4) ran 3rd at this same level last time out and has some stalking ability, too. I bet the 3 across the board and then box the top 3 numbers in the exactas. I will key the top 3 numbers over/under the 2-7-9 in two smaller units.
th: 4-10-5/8/3-6/1/7-9/2…The Quarter Horse race will be contested at 350 yards and I will line up with Up Town J Ray (4). This one looks to have some speed and has been consistent throughout the cycle. Was the beaten favorite two starts back and then bumped up into more serious company. Drops back to where he could be a handful here. I bet the 4 across the board and then box the top 3 numbers in the exactas. I will key the top 3 numbers over/under the 8 in two smaller units.
