Here’s our looks at the Stakes Day program at “The Shoe” on this “Hump Day” card, which will include a return to action by our very own superstar in Diamond Solitaire. I will be on location and will be in both the clubhouse and on the “apron.” If you see a long-haired, old, fat man strolling around, come see me. Love to make the intro and get your thoughts on the best, little track in the entire Midwest.

st: 8/3-1-7/2-4//5-6…The first “Key Play of the Day” comes in the initial race of the afternoon at “The Shoe,” one of the finest facilities and great locations to enjoy live Thoroughbred racing action. This 4YO filly is listed at 4-5 in the ML, and that kind of respect is merited. Comes in off a 2nd last time out and in 5 career starts and hit the board in 4 of them. Needs to find a way to be in front at the wire, but the trainer is having a solid meet. Looks the best here. For sure. I bet the 8 to win/place and then key the 8 over the 3-1-7-2-4 in one set of exactas. I will key the “all button” over the 8 in the other.

nd: 8-3-4/6-7/2/1-5…I come right back with my second straight #8 in this affair. Beautiful and Bold (8) sure looks the part here after running a 2nd in the slop at Oaklawn Park back in late March. Barn can win off the bench and the rider is having a super meet, winning at a .20% clip after 85 mounts. This one is a beaten favorite, too. Grace and Glory (3) could pull the upset here. This one goes for a trainer who has won with .22% of the first 32 starters this meet and this one gets a monster drop in class for this outing. Chance. Written Consent (4) is another who is capable. Broke the maiden at Hawthorne just two starts ago and now finds a nice landing spot here to try the winners for the 2nd time. Apprentice rider looking for the first win this meet. But has 4 seconds in 8 rides so far. I bet the 8-3 across the board and then box the top 3 in the exactas. I key the top 3 numbers over/under the 6-7 in two smaller units.

rd: 3/4/6-7//5-2/1…The second “Key Play of the Day” comes here with Contemplation (3). This gelded son of Street Boss ran 3rd here on May 21 after setting all the early fractions. Gets a great gate rider and speed jockey for the first time here. Look for a huge improvement and will race as a gelding for the first time, too. That should help. I bet the 3 across the board and then key the 3 over/under the 4-6-7 in the exactas. More with the 4 than the rest.

th: 8-9/3-6/4//1-5-7/3…My third #8 in the first four races. Imagine that. Gianni (8) is listed at 6-1 in the ML and could spice up the tote board here. This one is trained by Larry Rivelli, who is looking for his first win of this meet. But the man can train and has won with .25% of the first 112 starts this year. Rider wins with .36% of the last 14 for the barn, too. Look out here. Dirbas (9) has a shot here, too. The 3YO son of Constitution may we worth the $20,000 price tag here. Has 2 thirds in 9 starts, and both of those came over the AW. But has never run for this level before, either. Shot. I bet the 8-9 across the board and then box these two in the exactas. I will key the 8-9 over/under the 3-6-4 in two smaller units.

th: 9-4-3/2-6-7-10/1-5-8…Foxy Justice (9) is a 2YO Indiana-bred filly who will make the career debut for hot trainer Aaron West, who is winning with 20% of the first 20 starts. Rider has been up for .33% rate for this barn activities. Sharp work for this gal on June 15. Dam has 3 winners from 4 starters — including a Stakes winner. My pick. Calcolery (4) has the experience edge. Rider has won with .29% of the last 45 outs for this trainer. Blinkers last out may help this time. Campanita (3) is a firster for a barn winning at a .15% clip this meet. Rider has won with .27% of the last 11 for this barn. I bet the 9 across the board and then box the top 3 numbers in the exactas. I will key the 9 over/under the 4-3-2-6-7-10 in two smaller units.

th: 1-2-3/4/8-6-11/10-9…The second turf event of the day and this one is as easy as? Well, maybe. I go with the 1-2-3, here. Tales to Tell (1) goes for a top trainer and owner combination. Ran super in the first start at Pimlico last September. Off since then, but training well at Turfway Park. Could pop here with a good trip. Why Waste Words (2) ran a nice 3rd here last time out and could improve off that effort. Son-in-law is the rider, and he is winning at a .04% rate this year. Here, though, he has gone 2-0-2 in just 8 mounts. Mischief Lily (3) has run two runner-ups in a row and has to be considered, as well. I bet the 1 across the board and then double down on the win wager. I will box the top 3 numbers in the exactas. I will key the 1 over/under the 2-3-4-8-6-11 in two smaller units.

th: 1-4/6-5/7-(13)-10/2/8/3-(14)…Checkered Flag Handicap…This is the first of two Stakes races on the day, and it has drawn a stellar field of Indiana-breds for this occasion — including our very own favorite, Diamond Solitaire (6). The 6YO mare is coming off a win in the Shelby County Handicap last time out and her best sprint effort of her career. Although we have always thought of her as a 2-turn runner, she is now 2-1-1 at this distance. Will becoming late and needs speed up front to set up the last quarter for her in this much-tougher field. But there is speed galore here, if they go. Carimba (1) seemingly has to go from the rail spot. Is 3-1-0 in 4 starts her and has won 3 of the last 4. Won the Pan Zareta against open company at the Fair Grounds over the winter. But she may be a tad better on the grass. Bluelightspecial (4) is another who has won against open company and she was 3rd in a  Stakes at Oaklawn Park just two starts ago. Has gone 5-1-1 in 8 starts here. Another speedster, on paper. Looks to go, as well. It could be another stellar wire finish. I bet the 6 across the board and double down on the win wager. I will key the 6 over/under the 1-4-5-7-13-10-2-8 in the exactas. More with the 1-4-5 than the others. Go Diamond.

th: 10-2/7-4/5-11//1-3-6…Nobody Listens Handicap…This is the 2nd Stakes event on the all-Thoroughbred card today and this one is for the boys. I go with Mr Chaos (10), again. I love this 5YO, who has gone 9-5-1 in 18 starts here. Won the last time out as my Pick of the Day. Has speed, but has learned to moderate it early on. Can kick it home at this distance, even when challenged. Tough one to leave out. Classic Max (2) may have the best speed in the race. Has 8-5-3 record in 23 starts here. Came 2nd to our top pick last time out and nearly held on for the win. Must go farther here, though, and that could hurt the chances. I bet the 10 across the board and double down on the win wager. I will box the 10-2 and then key the 10 over/under the 2-7-4-5-11 in two smaller units.

th: 1/4/2-6-7//3/8…The final event of the day is a turf event and it will welcome our last “Pick of the Day” in the railbird Backyard Justice (1). This one nearly won here last time out on June 10. Trainer is having a rough go this meet, but is one of the best to saddle a horse here in the past few seasons. Look for this one to be coming late and have a big shot in this grouping. I bet the 1 across the4 board and then double down on the win wager. I will key the 1 over/under the 4-2-6-7 in the exactas. More with the 4 than the rest.
