Here’s our looks at “The Shoe” on Wednesday, featuring a couple of very nice Indiana-bred Stakes events in the Thoroughbred game:

st: 7-3-6/5//4…Blue Nile (7) gets the nod in the ole’ lid-lifter at “The Shoe” on this Wednesday. This one is a first-time starter for the Brad Cox barn, which is winning at a .26% clip here this meet. Son of Pioneerof the Nile is a home-bred for the Godolphin Stables and is already gelded. Sharp work on June 21. Look out here. I bet the 7 across the board and then box the top 3 in the exactas. I will key the 7 over (only) all the numbers listed in a smaller unit, too.

nd: 6-4/1-5/2/3…Marital Bliss (6) is 9-5 favorite in the ML and figures to go off as the fan’s choice here. Goes for the barn of Tom Amoss, who is winning at a .36% rate this meet after 42 starts. This one broke the MSW last time out here on April 27. Barn wins with .19% when moving up to face winners for the first time. I’m in. I bet the 6 across the board and then box the 6-4 in the exactas.  I will key the 6 over/under all the numbers listed in two smaller units.

rd: (8)/3/2/1-4-7/5/6…This is the first turf event of the day and figures to stay on the sod, with no rain in the forecast. I go with Thunder Love (3), who ships in from Churchill Downs for the Paulo Lobo barn. This one nearly won last time out at this specialty distance and gets a rider who has won with .22% for this trainer. They “gee and hah.” I bet the 3 across the board and then key the 3 over/under the 2-1-4-7-5 in the exactas. More with the 2 than the rest.

th: 4-10/5-11/1-2-8/3-6-7/9…Superduty Justice (4) gets the nod here. Ran better than the odds would indicate in the last, but was really good at this claiming level the two times prior. Gets back to the class where he fits the best for a barn that has sputtered here a bit this year. I bet the 4 across the board and then box the 4-10 in the exactas. I will key the 4-10 over/under the 5-11-1-2-8 in two smaller units.

th: 8-3-4/5-9/7/1-6/2…Big Paper (8) is another from the barn of Tom Amoss and is owned by one of his best owners and supporters. Ran 2nd here over the sod the last 2 times out and could get the job done here with the 3rd different rider. This one has won with .20% of his 130 mounts this meet. Blinkers come off and the barn wins with .22% of the last 32 of those. The 2nd try after a claim and the barn wins with .30% of those, too. I bet the 8 across the board and then box the top 3 in the exactas. I will key the 8 over/under the 3-4-5-9-7 in two smaller units.

th: 11-12-7/5-10/4-9/2-8/1-3…Scotty’s On Edge (11) gets a narrow edge here. Won the last time out here and loses that condition. Must move up to face tougher here, but the barn has won with 3 of 9 here this meet and looks well poised to add to the total here. Silent Sonata (12) goes for a trainer who has won with .21% on the year and is starting to heat up after a frigid start to the meet. This one ran a tough one last time out, but look at the races against open company. Capable. I bet the 11 across the board and then box the top 3 in the exactas. I will key the 11 over/under the 12-7-5-10-4-9 in two smaller units.

th: 2-5-9/4-7/3-6/8/1…Checkered Flag Stakes…This is a 6-furlong sprint for the fillies and mares and features some good ones here. The edge goes to Hungarian Princess (2), whom we are very familiar with over the past few years. At this distance? She is very tough. She has raced 7 times with 4 wins and 3 seconds. Tough. Tough. Tough. Poetic Verse (5) has never been worse than 2nd in 4 lifetime starts and has won 3 of them. Comes in off an 8-length win. She’s good, too. But don’t leave out Buoy (9), who is my first “Upset Special of the Day.” This one has won two in a row and ran well at Turfway Park against open company, too. Has found her stride and a talented rider is back up. Look for this one to make a race of it late. I bet the 2-9 across the board and then box the top 3 in the exactas.

th: 7-3/4-9-11/10/1/5-6-2…Brickyard Stakes…Chipofftheoldblock (7) ran OK against open company in a Stakes at Hawthorne the last time out. Won here against Indy-breds two back. Veteran rider comes to town to ride this one again. Look out when they team up. Trouble. I bet the 7 across the board and then box the 7-3 in the exactas. I will key the 7-3 over/under the 4-9-11-10 in two smaller units.

th: 5-7-12/11/1/2-3-8…No Proof (5) gets the edge here after two nice runs in a row. If he can duplicate those efforts? Look out. I bet the 5 across the board and then box the top 3 in the exactas. I will key the top 3 over/under the 11 in two smaller units.

th: 2/3-6-7/1-5/10-(11)/4…The first Quarter Horse event of the day and I saddle up with trainer Randy Smith and his steed Carter Can (2). Ran very well in a Trail race here on June 4. Any improvement at all and this one vaults into the winner’s circle. I bet the 2 across the board and then key the 2 over/under the 3-6-7-1-5 in the exactas.

th: 5-2/3-4/8/6-9/1-7…The final race of the day and it is a Quarter Horse affa

Good Luck & All the Best / Gene
