After a tumultuous handicapping day at “The Shoe” on Tuesday, we are left with a rather sizable carryover in the Pick 5 pool going into play today. So, why not give it a ride, huh? We are. Ole’ college try, since we will be heading up to East Lansing later this week for “Parent’s Weekend” and a chance to see “Willie T” — one of the best, and brightest freshmen in the entire Big Ten.

The “Pick 5” will begin with Race #4 and run through the 8th. It is not easy and it could end up with another carryover after today’s renderings are completed. But here’s our looks, and our ticket:

4th: 6-5-1/7-4/8/9…Lizzsaidno (6) gets the nod for and from me in the kickoff to this “Pick 5” carryover pool. This 3YO filly has run 11 times already and is still seeking the winner’s circle for the first time. But has been competitive at this level. Has hit the board in each of the last two and the rider is hot these days — with a 5-1-3 mark in the last 15 outings. Gingadontchaknow (5) dropped back to this level last time out and was in the mix until the late stages. The cutback in distance should help this one, who can and will flash speed with a clean break. Speed rider up. Golden Heist (1) is the ML favorite and will be dropping from the MSW ranks all the way to the $12,500 mark here. Barn is having another solid meet, and wins with .14% of those dropping into the MCL ranks for the first time. Rider is hot, winning 6 of the last 17 starts. Route to a sprint? Barn wins with .06%. I will also toss the #7 and #4 into the spread equation. I bet the 5-1 — take note — across the board and then box the top 3 in the exactas. I will key the top 3 numbers over/under the 7-4-8 in two smaller units. (Look below for my Pick 5 ticket).

5th: 4-2/1-3/5-10-8-9/6-7…This is a turf race and I will saddle up with Skippinjustice (4). This 3YO filly didn’t fire last time when it was off the sod, but the race before this gal nearly took home the gold medal. Deep, deep closer will need some room and racing luck late. But the dam has already thrown a turf winner. Re Ante (2) has run two good ones against open company and should find the mix here a bit more to her liking. Another closer who will be coming late. Barn is having another solid year and has rallied this meet after a stumbling start. Look for this one to be a handful late. I bet the 4-2 across the board and then box these two in the exactas. I will add the #1 and #3 to the Pick 5 mix, just to add some cover in the horizontal plays.

6th: 4-5-3/6/7/1-2…Rock of Cashel (4) will get the nod here. This 3YO gray filly has run here 5 times so far. Has a win and 2 seconds. May have found her sweet spot at this level. Has speed. Will use it early and often, with a speed rider in the saddle. Come catch me. Sister Justice (5) drops back in class after a try against tougher. Fits better here and the vacation may have rejuvenated the jets a bit. Trainer is winning at a .21% rate in the claiming ranks. Justa Simploe Girl (3) ran 2nd last time out and the winner of that one came right back to win the next outing, too. Has run here 18 times with only one win. But 5 seconds. Hmmm. I bet the 4 across the board and then box the top 3 numbers in the exactas. I will key the top 3 numbers over/under the 6-7 in two smaller units.

7th: 1-9-3/6-2-8//4-5-7…Frady (1) was running a very good one on debut when he got into a tight spot and was steadied at the 1/4-pole. Lost all ground and momentum there, and all chance to win. New rider up here and this one looks poised for a good effort. Rail is a concern for the juvenile, but this one was well supported at the windows in the inaugural run. I tie on. Giovannino (9) is a first time starter, but the pedigree screams talent. By the great Into Mischief and the Indian Charlie mare has tossed two turf winners from four starters and has a SW already. She was a Stakes-winner in her own right. If she can go straight out of the gate, look out here. G T Five Hundred (3) ran better than it looks on paper in the first start. Now, gets to the grass for the first time. Dam has thrown a turf winner already and looks ready. I bet the 1-9 across the board and then box the top 3 numbers in the exactas. I will key the 1-9 over/under the 3-6-2-8 in two smaller units.

8th: 4/7/5-6-1-(13)/2-9/8-10-11-12-3…The final leg of this Pick 5 is a MSW event for the Indiana-breds and it is not an easy affair to pair down — especially to a single. But when you are attempting to spread early to give yourself a shot, sometimes you have to tighten the proverbial wagering belt. In doing so, I will single D’ Kitten (4). This one ran super in the first 3 outings of the career and just seemed a bit off last time out when getting Lasix for the first time. Barn wins with .20% when returning as a beaten favorite and the works suggest she will be firing early again here. I am on board. I bet the 4 across the board and then key the 4 over/under the 7-5-6-1-13 in the exactas. More with the 7 than the rest. If you can afford it, you may want to include the 7 on the Pick 5 ticket. I could not in my construction below.

My Pick 5 Ticket:

6-5-1-7-4 x 4-2-1-3 x 4-5-3-6 x 1-9-3 x 4 = $0.50-cent ticket will cost $120
