What a nice night to kick off the wagering week. We nailed the first 3 races and hit the Pick 3. After a 3-race sabbatical, we finished with a couple of nice winners, including a Trifecta in the finale.

We hit exactas that returned $10.80, $33.20, $34.30 and $13.10 for each $1 wagered, as well.

We hope to keep the momentum rolling tonight. Here’s a look at our picks for fun Friday:

1st: 2-3/1/5-7/9-4…Smarty Artie (2) returns tonight as a beaten favorite, and the barn hits with .22% of them. Drops another rung down the ladder for this one and should fit very strong in this company. Will coming running in the late going. Meet’s leading rider stays atop. Has teamed up with this barn operator over the last 8 mounts to win at .38% of the time. Trainer hot, too. In last 12 mounts, the trainer has a 4-1-3 record, and has won with .35% of the 55 starters this meet. Abby’s Destiny (3) drops to the bargain bin for this one. No where close in the last out against much, much better. The race two back will put this one in contention. I bet the 2 to win/place/show and then box the 2-3 in one exacta. I will key the 2-3 over/under the 1 in two smaller versions.

2nd: 4-7/6-5-8/2-9-3…Ferlin Husky 4) was a heckuva singer, and this 9YO gelding should hum a pretty good tune against this crowd, too. Has the speed to be a forward threat in this one. In two starts over this track, has a second. Been over an AW surface a total of 17 times. Has 5 wins and 6 seconds in those starts. This one figures against this group. Richiesonarampage (7) ran a good one from off the pace last time out here on Feb. 6. In 21 tries over an AW surface, this one has a 3-7-2 record total. I bet the 4 to win/place/show and then box the 4-7 in the exacta. I will key the 4-7 over/under the 6-5-8-2-9.

3rd: (13)-4-12/1/11-9-7-5/(14)-8-3-2…Equal Justice (13) drops to the bargain bin for the first time ever, and figures to be a tough out in this grouping — if the 4YO gelded son of Distorted Humor draws into the race from the AE List. The race two back could be a definite winner in this group. If he does NOT get in, then it is time to drop back and pick again. I will go with Dragon Drew (4) is a horse that was once in the barn of my great friend Buff Bradley. Won a Stakes event at the Fair Grounds over the sod there. Unfortunately, this one is a true rain maker and he caught nothing but sloppy and soft tracks for the next year. Now, finds his way to the bottom for the first time. He looks like a superstar against these and the pickup of the meet’s top rider does not hurt at all. I bet the 13-4 across the board and key on both or one of them — if they get in and stay in. I box the 13-4-12 in one exacta, and then key the 13-4 over/under the 12-1-11-9-7-5 in two smaller versions.

4th:2-9-3/4-1-8/7-6…Lady Worthington (2) is a 4YO daughter of Scat Daddy and under the tutelage of superstar TP trainer Wesley Ward. War has won with .35% of the 55 starters this meet and has a total record of 19-6-10. Rider has won with .43% of his 14 rides for this barn this meet, too. This filly has not started since November at Aqueduct. Has faced some real good ones in the past and certainly figures to be a tough out on the lead in this spot. Will be her first try over the AW, though. Question? Not for me. Moon of Love (9) is a shipper for Ward and will be making her first career start in the U.S. tonight. Don’t know when the connections picked this 3YO daughter of Kodiac up, but will be facing older ones if she goes tonight. That is a lot to ask at this time of year of a 3YO. Last raced in November in the UK. Ran a very nice 3rd, and was beaten just a neck. Is scheduled to be treated with Lasix for the first time tonight. Stolen Beauty (3) is a 4YO daughter of Tapizar and a filly that I have documented and followed a lot in the past. Don’t know what happened in the last outing. But I can forgive and toss that one. Ran off the screen to win by over 7 two starts back at Churchill Downs. Speedster with a lot of gas. They will have to come and catch her tonight. If they can. I bet the 2-3 across the board and then box the top 3 in the exacta. I will key the 2-3 over/under the 9-4-1-8-7-6 in two smaller versions.

5th: 7/2-4-11/10-1-3-5/9-8…The first Key Play of the Night comes right here with Catty Krys (7). This 6YO mare has raced 3 times over this track and has a win and 2 seconds to show for the efforts. Could have been 3 wins, really. Meet’s top rider stays aboard and the barn is having a terrific meet — winning at a .27% clip after 33 starts here. Has a nice stalking run style that fits this track well, too. My solid pick. I bet the 7 to win/place/show and then key the 7 over/under all the numbers listed in the exactas.

6th: 4-5/1/7-3/8-6…Animus (4) goes for another hot trainer here this meet. The barn claimed this one two starts ago and the new operation scores with .27% of those making the second start for the new connections. Faced much, much tougher last time out. Now, drops below the original claiming price. This trainer hits with .40% when the horse is making there second start under his direction. Jockey has won with .28% of the last 25 rides for the trainer, too. My pick. I bet the 4 to win/place/shown and then box the 4-5 in one exacta. I will key the 4-5 over/under the 1 in two smaller versions.

7th: 11-(13)-(14)/4-7-10/12-8-5-2/1-3…Hemp Hemp Hurray (11) breaks from the outside in this tilt, but this one will likely drop back and make a late run anyway. I love the enthusiasm of the new connections to push this 5YO gelded son of Artie Schiller into a Stakes race off a claim. Ran well to be third in that Stakes, too. In 3 starts here now, this guy has 2 wins and a 3rd in Stakes company. Looks good enough to me. Horse Doctor (13) will be tough in here, too, if he and Leo (14) draw in from the AE List. Both have good enough resumes to figure. Looks like the outside could be the main action in this one. I bet the 11 to win/place/show and then box the 11-13-14 in the others draw in. If not? I key the 11 over/under the 4-7-10-12-8-5-2 in the exactas.

8th: 6-8/2-5/1/4…English Challenge (6) drops out of a MSW event into the MCL ranks tonight and the only time this one ran at this level, he was very competitive. This barn is having a solid meet here in 12 starts. Has a 2-2-1 record in those starts. The runner-up in the last came right back to win the next out. And, in 5 career starts, this one has 2 seconds and 2 thirds. About time to graduate. Artemus Citylimits (8) is a first time starter for the barn of Wesley Ward. The barn hits with .20% of these kind that make the initial start in a race of a mile or longer. It hits with .23% of those that make the first start in a claiming event. And, it hits with .28% of those that make the first start overall. Bullet work here on Feb. 17. Can’t dismiss. I bet the 6-8 across the board and then box those 2 in the exacta. I key the 6-8 over/under the rest of the numbers in two smaller versions.

Good Luck & All the Best / Gene
