It’s Friday the 13th? Makes sense, right?

Especially after this week, what else could go haywire?

Let’s not think about that, though, and let’s focus on the more positive. A good night of racing tonight. A great day of racing on Saturday. Let’s wash our hands (we have always had to do that in this sport, any way). Let’s stockpile the wipes, disinfectant and toilet paper (I really don’t understand the toilet paper thing). Let’s turn on the TVs; grab a bag of popcorn; flip a printed page or 2 of brisnet.com PPs; and watch some races.

Here’s our selections.

Hope you enjoy. Stay healthy.

1st: 2-6/8-3-4/7-5-1…Tudox Lifting Off (2) gets an edge in the numbers that I calculate, but the 5YO Warriors Reward mare is my first Key Play of the Night. This gal has hit the board in the last three tries here and returns as a beaten favorite tonight. Barn hits with .25% of those kind, and she really does seem to be ready for a score here. Does seem to hang a bit when nearing the wire, but here’s hoping that a trainer — who has had a super nice meet — and his go to rider can figure out a solution this time. Jockey has won with .32% of the 19 mounts for this barn this meet. My choice. Solid. I bet the 2 to win/place/show and then box the 2-6 in one exacta. I will key the 2 over/under the rest of the numbers in two smaller versions.

2nd: 3-10-8/5-1-4/9-2-7…English Investor (3) is a 5YO gelded son of English Channel, who is one of the best sires for the AW surfaces. This guy won easily over the poly at Arlington Park two races back, and then slowed at the wire in a turf event at Hawthorne in the last race. That was in October. Has been training nicely for the return and the trainer is having a super meet — winning at a .28% clip in 25 starts so far. Has a 7-5-2 record in those starts. In 4 races over the AW, this one has 2 wins and a third. My pick. Thirsty Actor (10) goes for another hot barn operator. The new connections claimed this one last time out, and return tonight at the same price point. After a win, too. New connections hit with .12% with those making the barn debut. Apprentice rider has won with .29% of the 14 rides for this barn, too. Contender. Golden Gift (8) returns as a beaten favorite when he ran 2nd here on Jan. 18. This one is now 11 years old, but seems to relish his chores. In the last 7 races, he has hit the board 6 times and has a 4th place finish, to boot. He should be close at the wire. I bet the 3 to win/place/show and then box the top 3 in the exacta. I will key the 3-8 over/under the 10-5-1-4-9-2-7 in two smaller versions.

3rd: 8-9-7/5-1/6-2-4/3-10…Settle a Score (8) won over this track back in early January and has been disappointing in the final two. Had some issues in both of those races, though. Look at the comment lines. Bothered in one. Checked in the other. Needs a clean run to make the late rally, but if she can find a good spot? Look out. Big move up in jockey’s tonight, too. I love this one. I bet the 8 to win/place/show and then box the top 3 in the exacta. I will key the 8 over/under the 9-7-5-1-6-2-4 in two smaller versions.

4th: 8-3-4/6-9-7-1/2-5…Out of the Blue (8) is an Indiana-bred that has been hunting for the first win here in the last 3 starts. Has 2 seconds and a third. Might be time to break the maiden in the 13th career race on a Friday, the 13th? Right? Breeding helps over the AW and the trainer is due. Wise Soldier (3) is my first Upset Special of the Night. This 3YO gelded son of Jack Milton is dropping way down the pecking order tonight after two poor runs in row. But look back at the Dec. 14 run at this level. Solid. Barn has 2 wins in the last 6 starts and the rider is a perfect 1-for-1 with this connection. Hmmm. Leave It to Kitten (4) could be another to spice up the odds rack tonight. Ran third last time out in the initial try over the AW. This will be the 2nd start off a layup, too. Trainer is 0-for-24 this meet and has won with only 3% of the last 79 runners. Wow. But may use under? I bet the 8-3 across the board and then box the top 3 in one exacta. I will key the 8-3 over/under the 4-6-9-7-1-2-5 in two smaller units.

5th: (13)-1-10-9/2-5-6-11/12-3-7-8…Miriam’s Sky (13) needs some luck before this race ever begins. The 4YO gelding is on the AE List and needs a scratch or 2 to draw in. If he gets in, though, look for a big shot here. Will make the first start for one of this meet’s top barn operators and will fall to the bargain bin, too. Combo could do the trick for this one. If he does not make the gate, I will give the edge to Promontory (1). This one comes from the Wesley Ward barn, and it has won at a whopping .37% clip this winter. Goes to the basement tonight and takes the barn’s top rider with them. Jockey has won with .64% of the 11 mounts he has gotten. Those are huge numbers. I bet the 13/1 to win/place/show and then key either / both of those over the rest.

6th: 6/1-8/2-9/5-10-11…Atmos (6) is my next Key Play of the Night. This 5YO son of Candy Ride goes for the barn of Dale Romans, who has only 1 win in 14 starts this meet. But this one will be running for the first time since October and drops from a $20,000 price tag to a modest $5,000 tonight. Looks like the best of this group — based on the last workout, too. I bet the 6 to win/place/show and then key the 6 over/under the numbers listed.

7th: 1-4-2/1A-3-8/10-9-7-5-6…Mr. Chow (1) goes for a low-percentage trainer. Has won with only .05% of the last 37 runners and has only 1 win in 18 starts this meet. But…This one is the winner. Won here three starts back. Ran against much, much better in the last two tries. Now, back to the same price category where the win occurred. Should fit nicely here. Prince Arlo (4) nearly won the last time out and has a win and 2 seconds in just 3 starts over this track. Trainer has a 1-2-0 record in just 4 starts this meet. Hmmm. Rio Bueno (2) was claimed two starts back and ran a winner on the move up in class last time out. Barn has won with 2 of 5 this meet and should be tough in here. Has hit the board in each of the last 6 starts — none worse than 2nd. Figures. I bet the 4-2 across the board — take note. I box the top 3 in the exacta.

8th: (13)-4-8/3/12-6…Rainys Girl (13) is another from the AE List that I like to night. If she gets in, she will be making the career debut. Gate position is not idea, but she has been training nicely for a barn that wins with .16% on the initial start. I like this one. If she does not gain entry, I will go to Final Truth (4). Barn hits with .26% of those making the 2nd start off a layup, and the drop to the bin should help this one, too. Like the jockey switch. Chance. I bet the 13/4 across the board and then box the top 3 numbers in the exacta. I will key the 13/4 over/under the “all button” in two smaller units.
