Stats Are Now Completely Updated

Here’s our looks at the new & improved Turfway Park, which will kick start the Holiday Meet tonight with the grandstand and other on-track amenities now completed and fans welcome to both attend and participate. It’s a new day in Florence, Y’All. It’s the beginning of a new era. It’s the start-over that many have waited for so many days and nights. And, the new & improved All Weather Tapeta surface has been groomed to perfection.

It’s time.

A new time.

A brand new time for the new & vastly improved Turfway Park.

Here’s hoping that the new & improved Turfway Park — now under the leadership of Team Churchill Downs — will become the best winter racing venue in the world and elevate Kentucky racing just another notch; another rung; another level.

1st: 9-3-5/7/2/4/1-6-8-10…Duel Fuel (9) gets the nod in the ole’ lid-lifter at the new & improved Turfway Park this evening. The 4YO gelding comes in off a few runs at the $10,000 claiming level. Not competitive at that department, thus the drop to the “Bargain Bin” for this effort. Barn wins with 0-for-10 when dropping this much at once. But the barn is having an OK year and picks up a rider who has won with .14% of 605 mounts this year. Should be OK at this level, especially considering that this one has gone 3-1-0 in 5 previous tries over this track surface. Mr. Walsh (3) has never raced here before and the barn has won with just .03% of 77 starts this year. But this one picks up a top rider at Horseshoe Indianapolis this year and has worked well at Pimlico before shipping in. Chance. Retaliated (5) ran OK against tougher last time out and has been working over this track in preparation. Trainer has won with .14% of 399 starts this year and new rider on the grounds gets the mount. I bet the 9-5 across the board and then box the top 3 in the exactas. I will key the top 3 numbers over/under the 7-2 in two smaller units.

2nd: 8/4-7/3-6/2-5/9-10/1…The first “Key Play of the Night” comes here with Takafumi (8). This 6YO gelded son of Midshipman will make the first Kentucky start for a top trainer, who is having another solid year. Barn has won with .17% of 1,124 starts and this one has a 1-1-0 mark in 4 previous tries over an AW surface. Comes into this one with a 2-race win streak, too. Work at Belmont Park on Nov. 14 was spot on. I’m all in here. I bet the 8 across the board and then double down on the win wager. I will key the 8 over/under the 4-7-3-6-2-5-9-10 in the exactas. More with the 4-7 than the rest.

3rd: 7-4/2-3/1-6/5…Bath and Tennis (7) is the 9-5 ML favorite, according to my good friends over at Brisnet.com, and this one looks the best to me, too. The 7YO mare won the last time out over the sod at Laurel Park. Came running at the end to snare that victory. In 6 previous tries over an AW surface, this one has gone 2-2-2. Gets a top rider for this assignment. Look out here. Yogurt (4) has raced here 3 previous times and has a win under the saddle. Is dropping in class for this one and the barn wins with .20% when it ships to a new locale. Likes the distance, too, with a win in two tries. I bet the 7 4 across the board and then double down on the win wager. I will box the 7-4 in the exactas and then key the 7 over/under the 4-2-3-1-6-5 in two smaller units.

4th: 4-8/3-7-11/5-6-9/2/1-10…Deise Delight (4) is the #4 in the 4th race. Gotta go, right? Especially when you like the horse. This 5YO mare drops to the lowest price tag ever after a disappointing run at Santa Anita on Oct. 30. Has only one previous try over an AW surface and was 3rd in that affair. Gets a very capable rider up and this one should be the speed of the race. Look out. Icy River (8) drops in class for this one, too, and the barn wins with .12% when switching from the dirt track to the AW surface. Should love this level, and the barn wins with .09% when dropping into the claiming ranks for the first time. I bet the 4 across the board and then box the 4-8 in the exactas. I will key the 4-8 over/under the 3-7-11-5-6-9-2 in two smaller units.

5th: 6/7-8/9/12/2-5/4-11-(14)/1/3-10…The next “Key Play of the Night” comes here with Botanical (6). This 2YO daughter of Medaglia d’Oro is wonderfully bred and goes for a top barn operation, which has won with .23% of its first 847 starters this year. This one nearly won last time out over the sod at KEE. Came running late despite huge obstacles and a very wide trip. Gets a new rider, who does very well at this venue. One of the top riders here a year ago. Look out for this one. I bet the 6 across the board and then double down on the win wager. Maybe even triple down. I key the 6 over/under the 7-8-9-12-2-5 in the exactas. More with the 7-8-9 than the rest.

6th: 1-5-2/3-12/7-9-10-4/8/6/11-(14)…Blue Devil (1) should be a tough out in this MSW event that is slated for the marathon distance of 11/4-miles. This 3YO gelded son of Uncle Mo has never been farther than 11/16-miles in a race, but did run up the hills and over the dales at KY Downs in the last outing. Ran a very good 2nd at Ellis Park this past Summer. Winner in that one came right back to win the next outing, too. Love the rider choice here. Pancake House (5) goes for one of the top young trainers in the game today. Barn is having another solid year, winning at a .19% rate after the first 182 starts. Wins with .20% in the MSW ranks, too. Son of Maclean’s Music is out of a Stakes-winning mare and has shown real ability to close. Look out here. Timo (2) goes for a barn that wins with .21% of the last 28 to switch from the sod to the AW surface. This one came with a huge effort last time out at KEE. Much better than looks on paper. Left at gate and lost by 2. Wow. I bet the 1-5 across the board and then box the top 3 numbers in the exactas. I will key the top 3 numbers over/under the 3-12 in two smaller units.

7th: 7-11-3/8-12-5/6/2-10/1-4…Shannon (7) is the #7 in the 7th race. Gotta love that, right? Especially when you like the horse, most of all. This 4YO daughter of KY Derby winner Nyquist has run 3 runner-ups in a row and has hit the board in 4 of 6 lifetime. Should love this one. Love. Love. Love. I’m all in here. All. In. I bet the 7 across the board and then double down on the win wager. I will box the top 3 numbers in the exactas. And, I will key the 7 over/under the 11-3-8-12-5-6 in two smaller units.

8th: (13)-(14)-8-10/1-4-7-11/2/3-5-6-9…The night’s finale is a 6.5-furlong sprint over the AW surface and I will line up with the AE horses on the far outside, if both or either draw into the race. Kid Shelleen (13) drops in class after 11 tries. Has 5 runner-ups and two 3rds on the resume, but seemingly can’t get by the last horse at the wire. This drop could assist that effort. Immensely. War Room (14) is very well bred and should love this surface. Drops from the MSW ranks, too, and should find this company to his liking. If they do not get in, though, I will revert to Grey Charmer (8). This 3Yo son of Temple City has been facing tougher and should like this drop. The run over the turf at Horseshoe Indianapolis was solid. Dam of this one was a Stakes-winner, too. Willacy (10) was claimed last time out and goes for a barn that wins with .16% of the last 456 to make the initial start for the new connections. Has flashed some ability over the sod. Bred for this surface. Look out here. I bet the 13-14 if they get in. If not, I bet the 8 across the board and then box the 8-10 in the exactas. I will key the 8-10 over/under the 1-4-7-11-2 in two smaller units, as well.

Good Luck & All the Best / Gene
