(The fans — and the kids — are back at Churchill Downs. Oh, glorious day / Photos by Holly M. Smith)
Not a bad day to kick start the Churchill Downs’ Fall Meeting. Not a bad day, at all.
Fans were back in the stands. Welcome any. Welcome all. Thanks be to Churchill Downs and their hierarchy who understand that people — of all ilk and economic standing — want to come and watch the Thoroughbreds do what they do best and naturally. Run. Win. Celebrate.
Thanks Churchill Downs.
We were back in Louisville, after a whirlwind trip to the Mountains of North Carolina. Saw the Biltmore Estate. Went to downtown Ashville and ate more than we should. Sat in the rocking chairs and gazed at the smokey Smokey Mountains. Enjoyed life. To the fullest. And, we do NOT plan to quarantine. Not for 14 days. Not for a damn second. Catch me if you can, Gov. Beshear. Good luck with that.
Thanks to my beautiful wife, for taking me, and always having my mask ready for the day’s activities.
And, today, the horses were back on the greatest racetrack in the entire free world. Running at full tilt. The chestnuts and the grays. The bays and the dark bays. The jockeys, wearing their Dolly Parton silks of many colors. The trainers training. The riders riding. The fans cheering.
Thanks to all the owners, breeders, and, most of all the horses.
We managed four winners on the 11-race card.
We picked you King Fury in the Street Sense Stakes. And, we had a few exactas to spice up the day.
Thanks for a little good luck.
See you on Wednesday. Virtually.
I won’t be at this track. I will be at Indy Grand to watch our 2YO filly — Diamond Solitaire — run in the $75,000 Indiana Stallion Fillies Stakes.
We will be facing off against our arch nemesis — Hungarian Princess. Hungarian has beaten us twice and Hungarian’s only loss (so far) has been to this 2YO filly by the name of Coach.
You know the one?
Coach just won the Rags to Riches Stakes today at Churchill Downs. For fun. Yeah, that’s the one.
We will try to beat Hungarian and the rest of them on Wednesday. Wish us luck.
I will be there. In person, where fans have been welcome to attend for quite some time. All of us, in fact.
Thanks Indy Grand.
And, I will be coming back that night. I won’t be quarantining after that day-trip, either. Not for 14 days. Not for a damn second. Catch me, if you can, Governor. Good luck with that, too.
But I will be at Churchill Downs later this week. In person. Celebrating life.
Good Luck & All the Best / Gene
