There has to be a morning after, or so sings the lyrics of the theme song from “The Poseidon Adventure.”
Today, at the very least, we get to celebrate the fact that we get an extra hour of sleep, and, oh boy, I could use it this a.m.
But we also get to celebrate another year’s worth of grand Championship racing, thanks to the wonderful accomplishments of founder, John Gaines, and carried about by the Breeders’ Cup officials, once again.
There were a few hiccups along the way, per usual. (We go into those in our opinion piece to appear later today).
There were a few things that MUST be corrected, both from the last two days, and, most certainly, for the go-forward. (We go into those in our opinion piece, too.)
But there were many reasons to celebrate and cheer, and a few times to fall and crumble for the desperation moves at the wire fell a few inches short. (Yep, we go into those, as well.) The lingering memory of Flightline will stay on the tips of our mind for quite some time, I am sure.
Yet…
Just as the wind blew through Central Kentucky and over the highest point in Fayette County on Saturday, the leaves of 2022 Breeders’ Cup are now somewhere near Cumberland Falls. And, as horse players and lovers, we turn our collective attention to the next great race; the next great horse; the next great moment in time.
Soon, all of those things will be upon us, once more.
Until then…
Good Luck & All the Best / Gene
