On Sunday, we finished up the 2022 live racing year at Churchill Downs. It was a very sloppy, rainy, chilly and a rather miserable day, to be sure, but we managed to whip up 5 winers on the card — including the first 4 to start the card.

Not bad. Not bad, at all.

Overall, this is how we did at Churchill Downs this year:

November Meet:

Our top pick “Hit the Board” (first three finishes) in 111 of 166 races = 66.87% of the time.

Our top pick “Won” 63 of 166 races = 37.95% of the time.

Our “Key Horse” category had 17 plays. We went 6 wins, 5 seconds and 3 thirds = 35.29% Win / 82.35% “In The Money.”

September Meet:

Our top pick “Hit the Board” (first three finishes) in 61 of 113 races = 53.98% of the time.

Our top pick “Won” 36 of 113 races = 31.86% of the time.

Our “Key Horse” category had 11 plays. We went 5 wins, 4 seconds and 0 thirds = 45.45% Win / 81.82% “In The Money.”

May-July Meet:

Our top pick “Hit the Board” (first three finishes) in 265 of 396 races = 66.92% of the time.

Our top pick “Won” 139 of 396 races = 35.20% of the time.

Our “Key Horse” category had 78 plays. We went 32 wins, 19 seconds and 7 thirds = 41.03% Win / 74.36% “In The Money.”

Overall at Churchill Downs in 2022:

Our top pick “Hit the Board” (first three finishes) in 437 of 675 races = 64.74% of the time.

Our top pick “Won” 238 of 675 races = 35.26% of the time.

Our “Key Horse” category had 106 plays. We went 43 wins, 28 seconds and 10 thirds = 40.57% Win / 76.42% “In The Money.”

We also touted (very randomly, I must admit) 12 “Upset Specials of the Day” throughout the year. We went 2-1-2 = 16.67% Win / 41.67% “It The Money.”

I will be compiling our “Year End Statistics” for Horseshoe Indianapolis, Ellis Park, Kentucky Downs and Keeneland (the only track in the Commonwealth that does not contract with us to provide handicapping of its’ meet) in the next few days and provide that report soon. As soon as Turfway Park completes its’ 2022 “Holiday Meet,” we will have a “Year End Report,” as well.
