Well, it was a great, fun day of watching horse racing from all around the country. Major Stakes. Kentucky Derby and Kentucky Oaks implications. Some horses became real contenders. Others? Maybe showed they were pretenders. Fun day of watching the TV.
Well, it was not a great, fun day of betting horse racing from all around the country. Not for Team McLean.
Overall, we handicapped 26 races for us and you. We managed a paltry total of 6 wins, 8 seconds and 13 thirds. Embarrassed.
At our home track, the “new and improved” Turfway Park, we stumbled to just a meager win in 8 races. Missed the Pick 5 in the first leg. Had 4 exactas that returned $10.20, $52.10, $8.20 and $47.60 for each $1 played. Little consolation.
At Oaklawn Park, we were worse. In three races, we went 0-1-2. Had one exacta that returned $27.60 for $1 wagered.
At Santa Anita, we handicapped 7 races and went 1-3-5. All three of our “Key Plays of the Day,” ran second, although we did try to beat two very strong, prohibitive and odds-on favorites in there. Scored exactas that returned $10.90, $4.10, $5.60, $26.70, $4.50 and $12.30 for each $1 played. (Can you tell me what track has the best exacta returns? Quickly now. It ain’t SA.)
At Tampa Bay, we did our best work. Handicapped 8 races. Had 4 winners, 1 second and 3 thirds. We hit exactas that paid $32.60, $17.80, $22.30, $39.80, $15.80 and $3.70
Not a good day.
On the “fun watching” meter?
A great day.
See you later this week. Hope you don’t hold many grudges.
Good Luck & All the Best / Gene
