From the Santa Anita Media Team:

KAZUSHI KIMURA, DUVET DAY, WINNER: “Today it seems like there was no speed in the race.  I decided to drop my hands and be patient until the three-eighths and then when I hit the three-eighths, I just swung out and she just nailed it.

“In her last race (Grade I, American Oaks) she wasn’t going to show up with the speed, it was quite difficult down the stretch but after the wire, she showed me more stamina, which helped today, a mile and a half it is best for her.”

MICHAEL MCCARTHY, DUVET DAY, WINNER: “Duvet Day, a mile and a half is right up her alley, Kazushi rode a great race, took his time. They kind of came back to us, and at the three-eighths pole he wheeled her out and she kind of kept on grinding and grinding.

“Australia Mia ran fantastic, first time in the country and going a mile and a half first out is not very easy. I thought she ran a very respectable race today. I wasn’t sure what to expect but I was certainly proud of her.

“Last year he rode some races for us at Turfway Park and he did an exceptional job, he (handicaps) the race very well, comes prepared, always eager to work and has a smile on his face.”
