From the Santa Anita Media Team:

JOEL ROSARIO, MUCHO UNUSUAL, WINNER: “I know she showed speed last time going short and it looked like she was going for speed. I just let her be happy where she was, and ended up being in the lead. I was just trying to let her be happy where she was. It was very nice. Thank you to George and Tim for the opportunity I appreciate that too.

KENT DESORMEAUX, APACHE PRINCESS, 5th AS 6/5 FAVORITE:  “She stumbled leaving the gate and then she got knocked sideways into the first turn.  She never seemed comfortable…I even looked down at the eighth pole to make sure, ‘Mama, are you okay?’”

TIM YAKTEEN, MUCHO UNUSUAL, WINNER:  “What went into the decision was the stakes schedule, her action, being out of the Unusual Heat mare and her half-brother is a turf performer. Absolutely surprised there wasn’t more speed, on paper there was quite a bit of speed on paper it turned out we were (the speed) and Joel took the lead and took command of the race.”

MILLIE BALL, XBTV ANALYST AND WIFE OF TRAINER TIM YAKTEEN, MUCHO UNUSUAL, WINNER: “This is very nice. It’s nice to be on the other side of the interview, of the win, for once. “That was impressive. You don’t often see horses come away like that on the turf.

Are you going to quit your day job now? “(Laughing) I wish!”

GEORGE KRIKORIAN, OWNER/BREEDER, MUCHO UNUSUAL, WINNER: “To win as an owner and breeder is the most special thing. When you breed a horse and then are able to race it and then win…that’s the most rewarding part of the racing business, it’s just very special.

“It was a huge effort but she really took to the grass, it was her first time on it. She’s bred for it and she can handle it really well as you can see, and she relished it.

“We were hopeful coming into today and we thought she could run a big race but you never know until the race is over.”
